Cam Alaasam
Pre-Licensed Professional, MSW, ASW
As a member of the LGBTQIA+ myself, I understand how helpful it can be to have a therapist with some similarities and shared understanding. I also have a depth of understanding about relationship anarchy and polyamory, as well as lived experience as a trans, gender fluid, and queer individual.

Mia Turner
Therapist, MA, RYT, ASDCS, LMFT, NPT-C, CMNCS, CMIP
Therapy for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals seeking a space where identity does not need to be explained, defended, minimized, or translated. My work supports people navigating gender, sexuality, relationships, family dynamics, community, spirituality, belonging, life transitions, and the ongoing process of living more fully in alignment with who they are.
This work is grounded in intersectionality, liberation, and the understanding that distress often emerges not from identity itself, but from the cumulative impact of navigating environments, systems, relationships, and cultural narratives that have not always made room for difference. Particular attention is given to the experiences of queer, trans, nonbinary, neurodivergent, disabled, chronically ill, highly sensitive, BIPOC, multicultural, and otherwise multiply marginalized individuals whose identities and experiences often exist across multiple worlds at once.
Exploration may include the impacts of masking, self-silencing, code-switching, hypervigilance, rejection, invisibility, family expectations, religious experiences, cultural belonging, internalized shame, identity-based trauma, and the exhaustion that can come from continually adapting in order to be accepted, understood, or safe. It may also include making space for joy, pleasure, desire, authenticity, connection, creativity, chosen family, and the parts of yourself that have had fewer opportunities to be fully expressed.
My approach integrates EMDR, somatic therapy, mindfulness, parts work, expressive arts, neuropsychotherapy, attachment-focused therapy, and liberation-oriented healing. Rather than focusing on who you should become, the work centers listening more deeply to who you already are. Support is offered in cultivating self-trust, nervous system safety, embodied authenticity, meaningful connection, and a life that feels more aligned with your values, relationships, needs, and ways of moving through the world.

Chris Guthrey
Psychologist, PsyD
As a committed straight ally, I support gay men in navigating mental health challenges by fostering an environment of acceptance and understanding. I recognize the unique social differences gay men face, including stressors like societal stigma, internalized homophobia, and discrimination, which can contribute to higher rates of depression, anxiety, and substance use. By providing culturally sensitive care and a safe space for open dialogue, I aim to address these issues effectively, promoting well-being and resilience.

Sarah Wagner LMFT Corp
Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT, MBA
Many LGBTQ+ individuals carry the cumulative impact of rejection, invisibility, or discrimination. Therapy focuses on understanding how these experiences affect the nervous system, attachment patterns, and internal self-talk.
Using IFS, we gently unburden parts that have learned to protect through withdrawal, perfectionism, or hyper-independence. Our work fosters self-compassion, emotional regulation, and secure connection in present relationships.

Oakland has a politically engaged, social-justice-oriented community where many therapists approach their work through an anti-oppression lens, specializing in racial trauma, activist burnout, and healing within BIPOC communities. The city's proximity to San Francisco means therapists here frequently work with the compounding stresses of the Bay Area housing crisis, economic displacement, and the grief of gentrification. Oakland has strong LGBTQ+ and creative communities, with demand for affirming therapists who work at the intersection of identity, community belonging, and personal wellbeing. Highland Hospital and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland provide institutional anchors alongside a network of independent practitioners.
