In addressing the complex issue of self-esteem in my practice, I delve deep into the root causes that underpin feelings of low self-worth, focusing on individuals who, due to their empathetic nature, high sensitivity, or autism, experience the world with intense emotional depth. These unique traits, while profound gifts, can also lead to overwhelming self-criticism, anxiety, and shame, often stemming from an acute awareness of others' emotions and judgments. This heightened sensitivity can culminate in challenges such as difficulty setting boundaries, a propensity towards people-pleasing, and perfectionism, all of which can erode self-esteem and contribute to a sense of burnout and disconnection from one's true self. My therapeutic approach is grounded in the understanding that low self-esteem often arises from these deep-seated patterns of thinking and interacting with the world. By exploring the origins of these feelings—whether they're rooted in childhood experiences, societal expectations, or the intrinsic challenges of navigating life with heightened sensitivity—we embark on a journey of healing and transformation. This process is focused on uncovering and addressing the underlying causes of low self-esteem, moving beyond surface-level solutions to foster lasting change. Together, we work to develop healthier boundaries, reduce self-criticism, and embrace authenticity, empowering individuals to reclaim their self-worth independently of external validation. The goal is to help those I work with to confidently shine their light, building connections that honor their authentic selves, and to discover a sense of self that is free from overwhelm and self-doubt. This depth-oriented, root cause approach to therapy is about nurturing a strong, resilient sense of self-esteem that supports a life of fulfillment, confidence, and genuine connection, celebrating the unique gifts of sensitivity and empathy as sources of strength and connection.
