My work with couples is potent, with sessions usually lasting two hours. As a result, the overall number of sessions is fewer than with traditional couples therapy.

I enjoy working with couples and helping them to reconnect. It brings me joy to see a couple “graduate”. I am trained in The Gottman Couples Method, a science-based method developed by John and Julie Gottman. John Gottman created the Love Lab in the 1970’s where he studied real couples. The result was that he could predict with 90% accuracy who would stay together and who would divorce and why. Because of this, it is a highly effective method of helping couples remedy the problems that have developed in their relationships, and I have seen how effective it is in my own practice. Aside from this training, I bring a wealth of lived experience to my work. At 61, I have been married for 32 years and have experience with many of the life issues that affect couples such as cancer, infertility and adoption.

Heling couples overcome barriers in their relationships is a very common focus of my clinical work. I don't adhere to one particular model or approach but do tend to focus on helping both parties in the relationship understand each other's needs and to shift into responding to those needs in a caring way. Often this involves understanding each other's backgrounds, and unresolved issues from childhood. My view is that when these issues become activated our adult romantic relationships this can be a tremendous opportunity for healing if approached with love and consideration.
