Like any addiction, sex and sexuality can be used as ways to numb pain and distance ourselves from the scariness of true intimacy, especially when our earlier lives have been interrupted by traumas, disrupted attachments, and confusing relationships. When we heal our relationship to sex, sexuality and intimacy, we can gain greater trust, ability to be seen and understood in our relationships and to see and understand others. Working in tandem with a 12 step programme isn't for everyone, but can be a great help here if that appeals to you.
