Dr. Patricia Webbink

Psychologist, MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology
I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults with Autism and Asperger’s in for over 50 years. I began my work with Autistic children at Duke University, where I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. There I studied with pioneers in the field of childhood autism, including Dr. Eric Schopler, a researcher into Autism and a colleague of Dr. Bernard Rimland, an early icon in the field of autism. For over 30 years, I created and produced summer programs for Autistic children where they received one-on-one attention. I have published four books, including The Power of the Eyes, which devotes a section to eye contact in autistic children. During my years of postdoctoral experience, I developed an expertise with children, adolescents and adults with Aspergers syndrome. These are bright individuals who can sometimes appear to function well, but who are plagued with poor judgment and limited interpersonal skills. Because they are often very bright, they can appear to be higher functioning than they are able. “A Beautiful Mind” is an extreme example of a brilliant individual who is plagued by hallucinations and delusions. Autism and Asperger's

Maria Maddalo

Psychologist, Psy.D., BCBA
I am passionate about the appropriate diagnosis and interventions for individuals with Autism. I provide therapy and evaluations for these individuals across the lifespan. Individuals with Autism are often mistaken for not experiencing emotions, which is unfortunate. These individuals experience anger, frustration, fear, sadness, and loneliness as the rest of us do. It may be expressed differently, or not at all. This can lead to feelings of isolation and often, suicidal ideation or attempts. We can work together to uncover you or your child's unique abilities and focus on them through therapy and/or diagnostic evaluation.
