We all know romantic relationships are hard work. Like cars, they require regular maintenance to keep them running well. If there is a problem, it’s best to have it repaired right away to avoid further complications down the road.
Often we can do some of the basic maintenance and repairs ourselves. Other times, despite our best efforts, we need to rely on a professional to take a look and give us a hand.
It is interesting how easily and quickly we take such steps to repair or prevent damage to our vehicles. But when it comes to our relationships, we often avoid taking action until the situation has become much more serious.
Unfortunately, many couples try couples therapy when a significant amount of damage has already been done. Maladaptive relational patterns have become entrenched, the emotional bond between partners has been severely weakened and there is a high level of resentment due to unresolved past conflicts.

Relationships don't break down because couples stop loving each other—they often struggle because they stop feeling heard, understood, and emotionally connected. Using principles from Imago Relationship Therapy and Gottman-informed interventions, I help couples slow down, set aside defensiveness, and learn to truly listen to one another. Through deeper understanding and healthier communication, couples can begin to rebuild trust, strengthen emotional intimacy, and reconnect in meaningful ways.
Whether you're navigating ongoing conflict, recovering from infidelity, feeling disconnected, or simply wanting to strengthen your relationship, therapy provides a space to better understand one another and determine the healthiest path forward together.

Psychologist, Ed.D., ABPP
Relationship counseling is a significant part my practice but in a unique way. I often work with one partner as the other either doesn't believe THEY have a problem or simply refuse to participate in relationship counseling. Based in part on my training in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy along with many years of experience, I am often able to improve the relationship by working with the "willing partner". Sometimes this involves working on improving communication skills and or assertiveness. Other times, it may involve teaching behavior modification such as using social or tangible ways that improve receptiveness and cooperation over time. In other situations, it can involve helping client recognize how they may be inadvertently contributing to the kind of behavior they don't like. Almost always it involves a degree of helping the client accept the things they can't change and modify their own beliefs and self talk. My motto is "we do more than listen". Teaching clients new attitudes and strategies to improve their relationships is a very gratifying part of my work with clients.
