Experiences in life that create deep wounds, fears, and mistaken beliefs can all be viewed from a trauma informed lens. Trauma can encompass a lot of different incidents, both big and small. These experiences may have occurred recently, as a child, or throughout one's life. My goal in working with trauma is to help the mind and body heal, so that the distress and discomfort of such experiences aren't unbearable. We cannot erase the troubling expeirences we have encountered, but we can try to heal and accept it as a part of our story that is in the past. I use various methods in working with trauma, which are dependent on the unique client. Traditional talk therapy to ignite insight and understanding are part of the healing process, along with nervous system regulation. EMDR is one technique that I incorporate often with trauma, and is becoming a standard treatment for trauma.
Whether you have big "T" trauma or little "t" trauma, the feeling you have inside is "your" feeling and can arise at any moment during or after an event that has affected you. Some people do not know they have been affected as much as maybe they think, but they "feel" the weight on their shoulders and/or in their body or are triggered and experience difficulties that seem like it is "out of the blue" such as depression, anger, frustration and anxiety.
I am an EMDR trained clinician who specializes in trauma related disorders. I have worked with clients who have sexual trauma, domestic violence issues, continued issues with worrying, and individuals who have witnessed violent events. My priority is to create a safe space to help you heal and decrease these negative symptoms or images from these traumatic events.
I provide psychoeducation about PTSD, helping individuals understand the symptoms, causes, and treatment options for the disorder. I also educate clients about the neurobiology of trauma, the impact of trauma on the brain and body, and common reactions to trauma. Psychoeducation helps individuals develop insight into their symptoms and empowers them to take an active role in their recovery journey.

Most people experience trauma in their lifetime. While some are able to recover others continue to live with deep emotional pain, fear, confusion, or posttraumatic stress far after the event has passed. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most common method to reduce trauma symptoms. I have helped countless individuals learn to process through the pain, let go of it and move forward toward a more hopeful future.
