Lorna Barnes, Oak Tree Counselling
Licensed Professional Counsellor, CT, CPC
It's important to feel we have permission to grieve when we've experienced a loss. Many struggle to grieve especially when they didn't feel safe to grieve as a child. In counselling we'll walk through the grieving process, normalizing the cognitive, emotional and somatic symptoms the client is experiencing.

Grief is one of the most painful feelings we will ever experience. It comes and goes in waves, sometimes bringing us to our knees unable to breath, and other times leaving us feeling almost normal (with or without accompanying guilt). Whatever the circumstances of your loss, grief is not meant to be experienced alone. Whether through family, community, friendship, or faith, we must find a way to live with shattered dreams, and the pervasive ache of loss. When help is needed, we are here for you. Reach out today to help us find the right person to support you at this time.

Times of grief and loss can be incredibly disorienting and painful. We may not only lose a beloved, but also a sense of identity, safety, purpose, and /or connection. As the rug is pulled out from under us, loss often changes our view of the world and even other people's intentions and motives. Along with feeling nothing in our life is safe or predictable anymore, it is common to fear even more loss is coming. Strangely, these times can also be ones when our faith (tested) is made stronger, or our understanding of our resilience becomes apparent. It is a time when expression of emotions through discussion, writing or art can be extremely helpful. It would be my honor to listen and journey with you at this sacred time.
