Something in you knows that what you're carrying runs deeper than the presenting problem. Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, capable, and outwardly composed-yet internally they live with anxiety, depression, chronic tension or pain, relentless self-criticism, or a sense that something essential is blocked, muted, or just out of reach. These struggles may surface in mood, in the body, in behavior, or in relationships-including sexuality and intimacy-but they are rarely contained to any one area. They tend to reflect deeper emotional and relational patterns formed early in life, often before language, that continue to shape how a person approaches closeness, vulnerability, agency, pleasure, and self-expression. My work centers on how early experience shapes the capacity for self-regulation, desire, connection, and meaning throughout life-and particularly on how people come to know what they need and want, how they learn to express or inhibit those impulses, and what happens when these capacities become conflicted, constricted, or difficult to sustain. I integrate psychoanalytic hypnotherapy, somatic awareness, and clinical sexology within a reflective, depth-oriented process. Hypnosis functions as a central clinical tool-creating conditions for deeper internal contact with emotional, bodily, and unconscious experience that can be difficult to reach through conversation alone. The aim is not only relief from symptoms, but the development of a more coherent and compassionate relationship with one's inner life: sensations, emotions, impulses, and desires. This work is oriented toward lasting psychological change-and toward greater freedom in how one relates to oneself, one's body, and one's capacity for connection, authenticity, and vitality. It is best suited to those ready to move beyond symptom management toward something more fundamental.

Dr. Allison Williams

Psychologist, Psy.D.
I specialize in helping those who are anxious and overwhelmed learn to recognize and honor their needs - it may mean: giving yourself permission to slow down, scale back, set healthy boundaries, go after what you truly want, and be yourself (authentically and unapologetically). As your partner on this journey, I’ll help you muster your strength, foster your self-acceptance, and feel more at ease. If you’ve always cast aside your own needs to give everyone and everything your all, I want to help you finally get what you deserve: better relationships, self-care, and greater life satisfaction.

Olympia, Washington therapist: Tara Murphy, psychologist
Serving Native American

Tara Murphy

Psychologist, Psy.D.
I believe every human being has inherent value, yet so many of us carry deep shame from past experiences that tell us otherwise—messages like “I’m bad,” “I’m too much,” “I’m unlovable,” or “If I show myself, I’ll be rejected.” These beliefs can quietly shape how we see ourselves, our relationships, and what we think is possible. In therapy, I work to help uncover and soften these old burdens so they no longer hold you back. My style is warm, collaborative, and deeply respectful of the courage it takes to show up. Together, we’ll build a space where you can feel seen in your wholeness, reconnect with your own inner wisdom, and move toward a life that feels freer and more grounded.

Your mind and body are deeply connected—and lasting change begins within. Hypnosis helps reprogram the subconscious mind, easing stress, releasing emotional blocks, and strengthening the mind-body connection. Akron's identity as the 'Rubber City' — once the world capital of tire manufacturing — has given way to a post-industrial economy navigating transformation, and therapists here frequently address the long-term psychological effects of deindustrialization: economic stress, community grief, and the identity challenges of a workforce that has had to reinvent itself across generations. The city is home to the University of Akron and has a growing health sciences and polymer science sector, creating a more economically diverse population than its industrial reputation suggests. Summa Health and Cleveland Clinic Akron General provide institutional mental health resources alongside a private therapy community concentrated in West Akron, Fairlawn, and the Highland Square neighborhood. Akron's significant Black community and the city's ongoing recovery from decades of economic decline shape a therapy culture in which community resilience and racial equity are recurring clinical themes.
