Authentic Counseling Services- Richard Turnham

Counselor/Therapist, LPC-S, LADC-S
Hello, I have 14 years of experience in helping people change and improve their experience. I love helping people and I am so grateful to have found this profession. I am encouraged and inspired daily by significant changes and improvements I see with the people I help. My approach is meeting you wherever you are in life and really focusing on gaining an in-depth understanding of you. I want to focus on understanding your experiences, motivations, perspectives, emotions, struggles, and circumstances. I want to know you at the most core level. I believe that process will lead to greater self-awareness and through that self-awareness we can begin to find areas that you have control to change. The changes made will create a different, better experience for you. I understand this concept is simple, but difficult to make happen. So, I will focus on building a collaborative plan and strategy to make it easier and more attainable. We will focus on facing fears, accepting things outside of our control, and gaining intention into where we have control. We will focus on ways of thinking about situations and finding helpful perspectives. We will focus on ways to control behaviors and begin doing more of what we want and less of what we don’t. This will create a better emotional experience, but we will also learn how to manage and tolerate difficult emotional moments. My goal is to create a place where you feel understood, supported, and encouraged. A place where things become clearer, and you feel more confident and in control. A place where you know seeking truth will be a priority because that is the only way to grow and become stronger. I enjoy helping people with any issue they are experiencing, including anxiety of all kinds, depression, addiction, PTSD, trauma, relationships, co-dependency, boundaries, spirituality, motivation, self-esteem, and grief. I am a Christian but have been an atheist and agnostic in the past, so I am very open to all viewpoints and enjoy working with people of any faith or lack thereof. I will adjust to you. I have had a wonderful marriage of 13 years and have always had a passion for understanding what makes a relationship healthy. I have 2 kids, 10 and 6, and have learned much about parenting. I spent a long period of time in the corporate world and worked my way up to director, so I understand and have gained perspective into that world and what it is like to be successful in it and then what it is like to get out of it. If this message speaks to you, contact me today and let’s begin a life changing experience and relationship.

You deserve a space where you don’t have to explain or shrink who you are. I work from a queer-affirming, trans-affirming, and trauma-informed lens to support individuals navigating identity, transition, relationships, and major life changes. Many of my clients come in feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from their authenticity, or unsure of the next step. Together we create space to slow down, explore, and reconnect with yourself. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in empowerment. Whether you're questioning, in transition, or working through old patterns, I’m here to support you in building a life that feels aligned with your truth. Therapy with me isn’t about “fixing” you. It’s about helping you feel seen, grounded, and understood.

Tulsa carries the historical weight of the 1921 Greenwood Massacre — one of the most devastating acts of racial violence in American history — and the ongoing work of community healing and reckoning with that legacy shapes the cultural context in which many local therapists work. The city has significant Native American and African American communities, and therapists offering trauma-informed and culturally affirming care are an important part of the local landscape. Tulsa's oil-dependent economy creates psychological vulnerability during downturns, and therapists frequently address financial anxiety, occupational stress, and the identity challenges tied to an industry in transition. Saint Francis Health System and Ascension St. John provide major institutional mental health resources alongside a growing independent practice community.
