Psychodynamic therapists in Killeen, Texas TX
David A. Heilman
Psychologist, Psy.D.
When deciding to see a therapist, it can be extremely challenging to choose someone to work with. I hope to be there with you in therapy as you work to discover new levels self-understanding, compassion, and insight. Most individuals decide to start therapy after encountering emotional distress that has left them overwhelmed, and as though they have lost control of their life. I work collaboratively with my clients to find ways in which they are able to regain a sense of control, empowerment, and purpose in their lives.
Important to our work will be the concept that our relationship, and the exploration of that relationship, will help you make discoveries about other important relationships in your life. Although this work can be challenging at times, it can lead to improvements in your social interactions, mood, and anxiety.
While I have enjoyed working with a wide variety of individuals, I specialize in LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapy, ADHD, anxiety, depression, chronic shame, couples/relationship challenges, and non-traditional relationships. I am currently seeing new clients in my Dupont Circle office, and I look forward to answering any of your questions.

You’ve taken a critical first step toward starting to feel better: you are exploring your options for therapy. For this, you should give yourself a pat on the back—starting the process of reaching out for help is never easy. The next step is finding the right therapist for you. I specialize in working with people who are not getting what they want or need out of relationships (including their relationship with themselves). Many of my clients describe being hard on themselves, having difficulty forming relationships, or not feeling fulfilled by their relationships.

Licensed Professional Counselor, MS, LPC
Everyone thinks you have it all together. You’re a high-achiever, responsible and driven. However, those nagging inner voices tell a different story. They love to tell you that you’re not good enough and love to point out where you’re falling short. Perfectionism, people-pleasing and over-functioning has kept you going, but you’re exhausted. All you want is to feel seen, heard and acknowledged, but it’s hard to prioritize yourself and communicate your needs. You might not even know what they are at this point.
You’re done living up to everyone else’s expectations, and you’re ready to start living on your own terms. You want to set boundaries without feeling guilty and focus on creating the life you deserve. You crave authenticity, creativity and freedom, and you’re courageous enough to chase after it. I am here to help. Schedule a free consultation call today to see if we're a good fit.

I am a clinical psychologist who has been in private practice for 5 years. Prior to private practice, I have worked in college counseling and community mental health centers working with individuals who present for therapy for a wide array of reasons. In addition to my private practice, I provide psychological evaluations to children who are looking for autism-specific treatment. Some areas of my interest are men's issues, anxiety, depression, and work within systems (families & couples).
