Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC, LMHC, LCMHC
As an anger management therapist, I help individuals understand and manage their anger effectively. Through a collaborative approach, I assist clients in identifying the root causes of their anger and developing personalized strategies for coping. I employ cognitive-behavioral techniques, mindfulness practices, and psychoeducation to help clients recognize anger triggers and regulate their emotions. In a supportive and non-judgmental environment, clients learn to challenge irrational thoughts and develop healthier responses to stressors. Ultimately, my goal is to empower clients to navigate relationships and life's challenges with greater resilience and emotional control.

I understand anger, the effect it has on one’s life, and how it affects the people around you. When clients see me as a peaceful guy, they’re seeing the result of a lot of healing work (with more to do). I’ve had considerable success helping clients with anger problems, perhaps because I believe anger management is secondary to healing. I believe most people who are angry are like volcanos. Even though the anger that shows on the surface in the present is hot enough to burn the client and everyone around him or her, there’s even more heat and energy “under ground” – in the past. So I usually focus on healing the past first – without having to spend a lot of time talking about it. Once that unresolved pain and anger is mostly dissolved, clients don’t get triggered as easily or as forcefully. The next focus is on reducing everyday frustrations. When the little things don't bug you as much, you'll be cooler under pressure and when bigger problems come up. , and have enough presence of mind to use anger management tools instead of losing control. Note: I don’t do court-mandated anger management. If you live in Fairfax County, call my colleague Gary Niki at 202-241-0944.

In our approach to anger management at Coalesce Family Services, we understand that anger, while a natural emotion, can often become overwhelming and lead to challenges in personal relationships, work environments, and overall quality of life. Guided by Hazel Jacobs, LCSW, LISW-CP, our program is rooted in evidence-based practices designed to help individuals recognize triggers, understand the root causes of their anger, and develop effective coping strategies to manage and express their emotions in healthy ways. We employ a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) techniques, alongside other proven methods, to provide our clients with the tools they need for self-regulation and emotional control. Our sessions are tailored to each individual’s specific circumstances, ensuring that every client receives personalized care that addresses their unique needs. Our goal is not to suppress anger but to transform it into a constructive force that enhances communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal relationships. Through our anger management program, clients can expect to gain a deeper understanding of their emotional responses, improved emotional intelligence, and the ability to navigate life’s challenges with greater calmness and resilience. Schema Therapy treats anger in terms of looking at it as a "mode" that is being triggered. We examine unmet needs as well as strengthening your Healthy Adult mode to make it more effective in filling these needs. At times it may be connected to a lack of limits, and if so, we set a plan to practice implementing appropriate limits that you may wish to try for. If you are angry, you don't want to just bury it. You want to listen to it, and find out what it is all about. That does not mean acting on it, but using it as an awareness tool and energy in your tank to get some unmet needs met perhaps.
