Do you think you've experienced religious trauma, but you're not sure? I wasn't sure for a long time, either. But I knew that growing up in church had hurt me.
Maybe you excessively worry about being "selfish," or talking about sex with your partner is too hard. You may struggle with trusting other people, especially authority figures.
I can help. Using Internal Family Systems therapy, I can provide you with tools that most people don't receive when they grow up in strict religious environments. You'll learn how to be in touch with all of your feelings and beliefs, rather than feeling like you have to pick one and go with it. Check out my profile and website for more info.
My holistic approach to Spirituality helps to focus on the healthiest aspect of the personality, using more flexible ways of thinking and responding positively to changes.
Spirituality is critical to our personal health, and this is a point that was not lost on 12-step recovery programs. Unfortunately, it is a topic that is not typically addressed in our conventional system. When appropriate, discussing spirituality with my patients can make a huge difference in working towards an individual's optimal health.
Although raised Catholic, Ms. Kurz's training in Transcendental Meditation, Buddhist Meditation and Yoga has allowed her to expand her beliefs beyond the church. An avid outdoors woman, Ms. Kurz brings all her learning, experience and training to the therapy room. Helping others find their calling is a profound aspect of her client work.
There are many sources of strength that a person relies on, such as family, life experiences, intellect, etc. One area that often is neglected is their faith. Recognizing that faith is often an important part of a person's life, I make space for my clients to openly share their worldview and how it impacts the way they experience the world.
My own life has been a journey that includes learning about and moving through a variety of religious thoughts, in addition to exploring conversations around the perceived differences between spirituality and religion. When clients express a desire to rely on and use their own beliefs in therapy, I welcome what they bring to the session room. In some cases, I may guide clients through their own exploration toward finding their own meanings in virtually any realm. In short, I am completely open to all spiritual concepts for clients' expressed benefits.
