NAVIGATING FAITH: FAITH CRISES AND FAITH AS A THERAPEUTIC RESOURCE We understand that faith can be an important part of our clients' lives - as a factor in their well-being and also their distress. We provide a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to explore their faith and how it relates to their mental health and well-being. We believe that the integration of faith and therapy can be a powerful tool for healing and growth, and we are committed to supporting our clients in this journey. When it comes to faith crises, we understand that it can be a stressful, confusing, unmooring, and disconnecting time. We ensure a safe and supportive environment for you to explore your doubts, questions, feelings toward, and all aspects of your faith so that you can reach a place of inner integrity about how, if at all, to hold and express your faith.

Psychologist, PsyD, LMHC, PSYPACT - Licensed Psychologist
Being a Christian psychologist myself, this is an area of support that can harmoniously intertwine both faith and mental health. The integration of faith alongside fallabilities and areas one wants to work on can vary greatly. We would work together to determine how this looks.

Psychologist, Licensed Psychologist in NC, Authorized PsyPact Practitioner in 40 states
Growing up in a Christian home, I found that I needed to run away from those beliefs for many years. That is what it took to open my eyes to a relationship with God that honors every part of my life and excites me to explore my faith with a demand that it supports my science as a psychologist and integrates the models and theories I use in my practice. If a client wants a focus on Christianity, I am happy to take that focus. If not, I do approach our work with the belief that every aspect of our lives can work together for our good.

Do you find yourself questioning your faith? Wondering whether your faith is strong enough or if God still sees and loves you? Please know that you're not alone. Depression, anxiety, and traumatic experiences can impact your thoughts, even your thoughts about God and who you are as a believer with these struggles. Too often, we see condemnation from the church about mental illness being related to lack of faith. However, several individuals who are revered by the church as saints (Mother Theresa is one example) have shared struggles in their faith and their tendency toward depression. A significant portion of my training has included working with individuals with a Christian background (involved in volunteer and occupational Christian ministry, trained in Stephen Ministry, PREPARE/ENRICH, Hope Focused Couples Therapy, wrote a dissertation on the relationship between one's God-image and forgiveness, and served as a consultant to pastors on mental health issues). Recently, I've become interested in helping others heal from religious trauma and spiritual abuse. Unfortunately, religion has sometimes been used to intimidate and exert power over others. This can happen from the pulpit or within personal relationships with others. In these situations, survivors can develop not only symptoms of depression, anxiety, and PTSD, but significant confusion surrounding their identity, their purpose, God's character, and their own standing with God. Please know that when we work together, I am sensitive to this possibility, and I will always follow your lead in discussing matters of faith. I will not attempt to lead you in one direction over the other, as you are capable of making your own decisions. I will, however, listen and support you as you navigate this often bumpy terrain. Mental health concerns and negative religious experiences are nothing to be ashamed of, and only by acknowledging them within a safe space can there be true healing. Keep in mind that there is no problem too big to overcome. Even if the future looks bleak, remember that hope and healing are possible.

Counselor/Therapist, LPC
As Christians, we're blessed to know that we are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. This profound truth serves as the cornerstone for our identity formation and recognition, providing a solid foundation for navigating life's challenges. Christian counseling offers a sacred space where faith and psychology intersect, providing holistic support for individuals seeking health and growth. Through Christian counseling, we embrace the transformative power of our faith, seeking to align our lives with God's purpose for us. Together, we'll explore how our identity as beloved children of God informs our decisions, relationships, and overall well-being, and navigate life's complexities with the assurance of God's presence, finding strength, hope, and restoration along the way.
