In addition to exploring thoughts and emotions like traditional talk therapy, somatic therapy pays attention to sensations in the body like tension, pressure, bracing, agitation, or feeling spacey or numb (fight, flight, freeze).
The goal is to work with the body’s self-protective responses to support healthy nervous system function and to build capacity to be more present and engaged in life.

Treatment Approach
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
- Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
- Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
- Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
- Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: I am a strength based , solution focused therapist with experience in Narrative, CBT, and Systems Theory. I have extensive training in Somatic Experiencing and primarily use this approach in supporting people with trauma, attachment, and toxic stress backgrounds.

The Somatic Experiencing (S.E.) approach is a powerful method for resolving trauma symptoms and relieving chronic stress. Developed by Dr. Peter Levine, SE results from his multidisciplinary study of stress physiology, psychology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices, and medical biophysics, and decades of successful clinical application. The SE approach releases traumatic shock – the key to transforming PTSD and the wounds of emotional and early developmental attachment trauma.
From a brain perspective, SE therapy works to shift brain stem and limbic system responses. This “bottom up” approach gets at the root cause of trauma symptoms. Specifically, it facilitates the completion of self-protective motor responses and the release of thwarted survival energy bound in the body.
SE therapy does not require the person to re-tell or re-live the traumatic event. Instead, it offers the opportunity to engage, complete and resolve in a gentle way the body’s instinctual self-protective responses. This resets the nervous system, restores inner balance, enhances resilience, and increases vitality, and capacity to actively engage in life.
