 therapist: Meghan Hanes,

Specializing in trauma, EMDR therapy, anxiety, and substance use, I help high-functioning women who feel successful on the outside but overwhelmed, exhausted, or stuck on the inside. You don't have to keep pushing through on your own. Together, we'll explore the deeper "why" behind what you're experiencing and identify the patterns keeping you in survival mode. Using evidence-based approaches in a supportive, nonjudgmental space, I help clients move beyond insight alone and create meaningful, lasting change. If you're ready to feel more grounded, connected, and in control of your life, I'd be honored to support you.

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Psychoanalytic Therapy Based on Freud’s theories, it explores unconscious conflicts and past experiences. It seeks to bring hidden issues into awareness.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: I believe that lasting change comes from understanding the underlying patterns that drive our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships—not simply learning how to manage symptoms. Many of the coping strategies that bring people to therapy, including anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing, emotional avoidance, or substance use, developed for a reason. Rather than approaching these patterns with judgment, I view them as adaptive responses that once served a purpose and deserve curiosity and understanding. My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and individualized to each client's needs. I draw from Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and client-centered approaches to help clients better understand themselves and create meaningful change. Together, we explore how past experiences may continue to influence present-day reactions, relationships, beliefs, and coping patterns. In our work, we'll focus not only on insight, but on helping your nervous system learn new ways of responding to stress, emotions, and triggers. While understanding why you do something can be incredibly valuable, many clients find that insight alone is not enough to create change. Through EMDR and other evidence-based approaches, we work to address experiences that may still be impacting you emotionally, mentally, and physically so that change feels more natural and sustainable. I strive to create a therapeutic environment that feels safe, supportive, and genuine. I believe therapy works best when there is a strong connection between therapist and client, and I value authenticity, curiosity, and collaboration in that relationship. My style is warm and compassionate, but I am also willing to gently challenge patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that may be keeping you stuck. I often incorporate practical tools, reflection, and occasional humor, recognizing that healing happens through both meaningful work and human connection. Above all, I want therapy to be a space where you feel understood, supported, and empowered to move toward the life you want—not by becoming a different person, but by reconnecting with the version of yourself that has been there all along.

Meghan Hanes Practice Description
On the surface, it may look like you have everything together. You're successful, responsible, and often the person others turn to for support. But underneath, you may be carrying more than anyone realizes. Anxiety, overwhelm, perfectionism, people-pleasing, unresolved trauma, or problematic substance use can leave you feeling exhausted, disconnected, and stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. You may understand where these patterns come from, yet still find yourself repeating them despite your best efforts to change. I specialize in working with high-functioning women navigating trauma, anxiety, and substance use concerns. Many of my clients have spent years pushing through difficult experiences, prioritizing everyone else's needs, and relying on coping strategies that once helped them survive but now leave them feeling trapped. My goal is to help you move beyond simply managing symptoms and begin understanding the deeper patterns driving your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and behaviors. My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that your responses make sense in the context of your life experiences. I integrate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and client-centered approaches to create treatment that is tailored to your unique needs and goals. Together, we will explore how past experiences may be influencing your present, strengthen your ability to navigate emotions and stress, and build healthier ways of relating to yourself and others. Therapy with me is a calm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can show up exactly as you are. I believe meaningful growth happens when you feel both safe and challenged. While I will meet you with compassion, curiosity, and acceptance, I will also help you identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck and support you in making intentional changes. I value authenticity in the therapy relationship and believe that healing doesn't have to happen in a sterile environment—sometimes insight comes through humor, honesty, and real human connection. Whether you're struggling with the effects of trauma, feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, questioning your relationship with alcohol or other substances, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself, you don't have to navigate it alone. Therapy can be a place to better understand yourself, heal old wounds, and create a life that feels more grounded, balanced, and aligned with who you truly are.
