Treatment Approach
- Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
- Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
Approach Description: Through CBT, I will help clients identify negative and faulty thought patterns, challenge unhealthy beliefs, and develop healthier ways of thinking and responding. To show or guide the client to see that their thoughts are closely related to how they feel and how they feel is closely related to their behavior.
Using DBT, I will teach mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness to help clients manage emotions, navigate relationships, and cope with life's challenges. My goal is to provide a safe, compassionate, and supportive environment where clients can build confidence, strengthen self-esteem, heal, and create meaningful, lasting change.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help clients develop psychological flexibility by learning to accept difficult thoughts and emotions without allowing them to control their lives. I guide clients in identifying their core values, practicing mindfulness, managing emotional distress, and taking meaningful actions aligned with the life they want to live. My goal is to help clients build self-awareness, confidence, and healthier relationships with themselves and others while navigating life's challenges and transitions.
Motivational Interviewing (MI): I use Motivational Interviewing to help clients explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors while identifying their personal reasons for change. Through a compassionate, nonjudgmental approach, I support clients in building motivation, overcoming ambivalence, recognizing their strengths, and developing confidence in their ability to make positive changes in their lives. I meet clients where they are while encouraging personal responsibility and meaningful growth.

At CEP Family Counseling and Consulting, PLLC, I believe therapy should be a place where you can be heard, understood, and supported without judgement. Life can be overwhelming, and sometimes you may find yourself struggling with anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, relationships difficulties, major life transitions, or simply trying to manage the everyday demands of life. You don't have to navigate those challenges alone.
I am Dr. Cathy E. Pickett, a warm, compassionate, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist, professional, and down-to-earth therapist who believes in meeting you where you are. My approach is collaborative and practical. I don't believe therapy should be about simply telling you what to do. Instead, we work together to understand what you're experiencing, identify patterns that may be holding you back, and develop realistic tools that you can use in your everyday life.
My practice provides support for individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, trauma-related concerns, anger, relationships challenges, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, and difficulty adjusting to life changes and transitions. I also work with clients who may appear to have everything together on the outside while privately feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, uncertain, or disconnected from themselves.
Therapy can be especially helpful when you are going through a transition-whether it involves relationships, family, work, personal growth, or a change in your direction. Sometimes you don't need someone to "fix" you; you need a safe place to slow down, gain clarity, process what you're experiencing, and discover the tools and confidence to move forward.
My therapeutic approach incorporates evidence-based strategies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), along with mindfulness, emotional regulation, and practical coping skills. These approaches can help you better understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while learning healthier ways to respond to life's challenges.
I also believe that self-esteem, confidence, and self-worth are important parts of mental and emotional well-being. Therapy can help you stop allowing fear, self-doubt, past experiences, or other people's expectations to define who you are. Together, we can work toward helping you recognize your strengths, establish healthier boundaries, improve relationships, and become more confident in the decisions you make for your life.
At CEP Family Counseling and Consulting, my goal is to create a therapeutic relationship where you feel respected, valued, and comfortable being yourself. There is no shame, no guilt, and no blaming. Your story matters, and therapy provides an opportunity to explore that story while focusing on where you want to go from here.
Whether you are struggling with something that has been affecting you for years or you're simply going through a difficult season of life, reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness. It is an investment in yourself.
You deserve the opportunity to heal, grow, and create positive change.
If you're ready to better understand yourself, strengthen your confidence, improve your relationships, manage life's challenges, or simply feel more like yourself again, I invite you to take the first step.
Contact CEP Family Counseling and Consulting today to schedule a consultation and begin your journey toward creating and enhancing positive change.
