 therapist: Ruth Mark-Roland Psychotherapy,

I am a London-based integrative psychotherapist offering LGBTQ+ therapy, chemsex support, and help with relationship difficulties. I work with gay men and others within the LGBTQ+ community who are navigating identity, sexuality, intimacy, trauma, and emotional wellbeing, often feeling stuck, disconnected, or caught in repeating relational patterns. My approach is relational and trauma-informed, providing a warm, non-judgemental space to explore emotional pain, attachment patterns, and the impact of early relationships alongside present-day challenges. With a background in group analysis, I draw on Foulkes’ understanding of the individual as shaped within relational systems such as family, culture, and society, helping clients make sense of how their experiences of belonging and identity influence their emotional lives and relationships.

Client Focus

Session Format: Individual sessions.
Age Specialty: Adult, Senior
Demographic Expertise: LGBTQ+, Men, Women clients.

Treatment Approach

  • Psychoanalytic Therapy Based on Freud’s theories, it explores unconscious conflicts and past experiences. It seeks to bring hidden issues into awareness.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: My work is grounded in psychoanalytic and relational psychotherapy, offering a reflective and collaborative space to explore unconscious patterns, relational dynamics, and emotional difficulties. I integrate psychoeducation to support greater insight and self-understanding, helping clients make sense of psychological processes and how these shape thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. Somatic awareness is also an important part of my approach, supporting clients to reconnect with the body as a resource for regulation, healing, and resilience, and I may also integrate EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques / tapping) where appropriate to support emotional processing and nervous system regulation. Each therapeutic relationship is tailored to the individual, working at a pace that feels safe and appropriate while responding to their unique needs and experiences.

Ruth Mark-Roland Psychotherapy Practice Description
I am a London-based integrative psychotherapist offering LGBTQ+ therapy, chemsex support, and help with relationship difficulties. I work primarily with gay men and others within the LGBTQ+ community navigating identity, sexuality, intimacy, attachment issues, and emotional wellbeing. Many clients come to therapy feeling stuck, anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves or others. This can include difficulties in relationships, loneliness, low self-worth, shame, trauma, and patterns that repeat over time. For some, this also includes chemsex, sexual behaviour concerns, and challenges around intimacy and sexual wellbeing. My approach is relational and trauma-informed, providing a safe, non-judgemental space to explore emotional pain, unconscious patterns, and relational dynamics. I pay close attention to how early attachment experiences, family relationships, and internalised beliefs continue to shape current ways of relating. I also consider the wider social and cultural context of identity, including sexuality, masculinity, belonging, and minority stress, and how these influence emotional life and relationships. With a background in group analysis, I draw on Foulkes’ theory to understand how the individual is formed within relational systems such as family, culture, and society. Therapy is collaborative and paced according to your needs, supporting deeper insight, emotional integration, and more secure ways of relating.
