Bethany Rooker Practice Description
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor located in British Columbia, Canada. I offer virtual therapy that is specialized in eating disorders and body image. I was inspired to support this population from personal experience and an understanding of the importance of finding a good counsellor fit. I work with individuals with a variety of eating and body image experiences. I see how eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image can impact anyone, regardless of identity and lived experiences. In fact, I see how eating disorders impact those with marginalized identities to greater degrees. Regardless of your experience, there is hope and possibility for an improved relationship with food, your body, and yourself. I use an Emotion-Focused Therapy approach to my work. I believe that our emotions are trying to communicate something important to us about what we need. For so many, we learn to dismiss or suppress our emotions because we learn that they are unsafe or unimportant, which results in increased intense feelings and undesired symptoms. In our work, we can begin to unpack the meaning behind our emotions to feel safe to experience and express them, rather than feel consumed by them. During this process, we will build up emotion resilience with new coping skills and practice. If you have any questions about my practice and availability, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or visit my website for more information.
