My approach combines modern scientific understanding with traditional techniques and is based on a lifetime of experience in the professions, business, academia and family life. Therapy is open-ended and client-led and explores the sources, as well as relieving the symptoms, of distress. The goal is to achieve long-lasting change and personal growth.

Approach Description: My approach to therapy is not for everyone. Many people want quick results. While relief from symptoms may be rapid , long-lasting change requires real commitment by both of us to the process. It takes time and effort. The establishment of a relationship of trust and confidentiality is essential. The discovery of life's meaning involves facing distress as well as realising one's vitality and creativity. Only those who truly wish to realise themselves should undertake this form of therapy .

I see individual adults (18+) in person or online on a once or twice-weekly basis. Sessions last 50 minutes and are based on client needs. We explore personal history including childhood trauma, family relationships, difficulties in work and life transitions such as marriage, childrearing, divorce, chronic illness, aging and bereavement. Physical and psychological symptoms and patterns of thought, feelings and behaviour are considered and their meaning identified to alleviate distress and increase personal understanding and development.
