Karen Petren
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW
I have been training in ERP (exposure response prevention), the gold standard in OCD treatment. Rather than simply talking about it, ERP directly targets the engine that keeps OCD going. Believe it or not, you can learn to face the trigger and not do the compulsion. “I can handle this…and nothing bad happens.” It is very effective and rewarding to see clients with OCD find relief and enjoy life.

Dr. Daniele Levy, Bay Area Cognitive Therapy
Psychologist, PhD, MBA
In treating OCD, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a focus on exposure and response prevention (ERP). This involves gradually confronting fears without engaging in compulsive behaviors, helping clients break the cycle of obsession and compulsion. Together, we challenge the irrational thoughts that drive your OCD, developing healthier responses and promoting greater flexibility around your thoughts and behaviors. My goal is to help you reduce the power OCD has in your life, improving your ability to function with confidence and calm.

Louisa Lombard
Licensed Professional Counselor, LCPC, LPCC, PPS
OCD can be mild to debilitating, and is often missed and treated as anxiety. I've found that OCD and Health Anxiety, as well as Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs, ie. skin picking, hair pulling/tweezing, nail/cuticle biting) can sometimes co-exist together. I'm trained in treating OCD through two of the primary evidence based OCD treatment modalities -Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP/ExRP). I-CBT is a newer evidence based treatment for OCD that focuses on gaining certainty versus pushing yourself into uncertainty, and is thought to be a gentler approach. There are many types of OCD and the thought-based "invisible" types are the most often missed forms of OCD, often called the "Pure O subtype" meaning that the obsessions/thoughts are there, but that the compulsions are mental and not outwardly visible, as we've come to expect from what we see about OCD in the media/social media. There are many forms of OCD, including Postpartum OCD, Relational (romantic as well as platonic) OCD, Harm OCD, Perfectionism/Just Right OCD, Contamination OCD, Scrupulosity or Religious OCD, Checking OCD, Obsessional OCD, Sexual Orientation OCD, Pedophilia OCD, and Superstitious OCD, among others. I'm trained in treating BFRBs using multiple modalities including, Habit Reversal Training, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Comprehensive Model for the Behavioral Treatment of BFRB and DBT, which help to reduce the symptoms of BFRBs.

OCD can involve intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors that feel difficult to control, even when you know they do not make sense. It can take up a lot of mental energy and interfere with your daily life. In therapy we will focus on understanding these patterns and developing ways to respond differently to the thoughts and urges. The goal is to help you feel less controlled by OCD and more able to move through your day with ease.

Heidi Hartston
Psychologist, PhD
I have several decades of experience working with OCD, intrusive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, unwanted images, reassurance seeking and relationship OCD. Although it can be a devastating experience and can cause a traumatic level of anxiety, OCD is very responsive to the right specialized treatments. I can help you individually to empower your true wise mind and to quiet the doubting voice. I can also help with families or parents who are navigating how to distinguish helping a child with OCD versus enabling. And I can work with couples where relationship OCD or another type of OCD may be causing a rift. I combine insightful, caring depth work with evidence based techniques like exposure and response prevention (E&RP) and CBT that effectively free you from obsessive-compulsive patterns, and help you to reclaim the balanced, happy life you deserve. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a control issue that is used to compensate for the fact that a person feels completely out of control. This disorder can have physiological consequences that can cause physical harm and results in lower seratonin levels in the body.
