Depression can look like exhaustion or a lack of motivation. There’s often a flatness or a disinterest in things that were once pleasurable. Depression is often described as a sustained feeling of sadness, pointlessness or grief. It can be intense or subtle but it is ongoing (generally for a number of weeks or longer). There is often a feeling of worthlessness. Together, we can discuss ways to treat the depression. I have a number of tools, including wonderful colleagues, with whom to collaborate, in order for you to feel better and be yourself again.

Being a human is hard. Who doesn't get depressed now and again? But what if it is more than that? You've been feeling a little down, then the day comes when you just cannot get out of bed, nothing sounds fun (not even the things that usually do), and you just can't quite get yourself to make that call or take that walk, even though you know it might help you to feel better. Then the day stretches to two days, then three, and it starts to feel like you will never feel "normal" again. These feelings are intense, and painful, and you do not have to suffer them alone. Call or email me today.

Depression is insidious. We don't always know where it comes from. Like with anxiety, some people are born with a predisposition to see the glass half-empty rather than half-full. It feels awful. It slows you down. It makes it hard to feel motivated to go after what you want. It makes it hard to enjoy the things you are surrounded by and have the opportunity to take advantage of. If it becomes severe (such that you've stopped going to work or have a hard time getting out of bed) I will refer you for an evaluation for medication. Much has changed in this arena in the last couple of decades and there are medications that might help you out of the morass and without the complications of side effects that are associated with some of the earlier drugs.
However, hopefully it won't come to that. My aim is to help you figure out what's getting in your way, emotionally, and causing you to feel depressed. If you are motivated to accept new insights to your habitual way of thinking, it's possible to start feeling less depressed and more willing to be present in the world.
There's no magic. I wish there were. Some people come in expecting a "solution" to their problems in five easy lessons, but it doesn't work that way. Therapy is a process, and it applies to depression as well as any other condition or state of mind you might find yourself in. But it's rarely impossible if you're willing to make the commitment to work through your stumbling blocks, you're likely to begin to climb up out of the darkness you feel you're trapped in. I'd like to help you do that.

I only work with individuals who experience, mild depression, and will help make referrals to those that work with more severe cases. Life can become very difficult at times and sometimes this results us feeling more sad than normal. Sometimes the best approach, is to have someone there to listen to what is going on and provide an empathetic environment, where all thoughts and feelings can be shared. Through these conversations, I feel that different perspectives can be built as well as hope for a brighter future.

I get it, depression can take over the things you once loved and looked forward to. It can make it so challenging to take the next steps, or even know what the next step might be.
