Licensed Psychoanalyst, LP, M.A., NCPsyA
Depression is insidious. We don't always know where it comes from. Like with anxiety, some people are born with a predisposition to see the glass half-empty rather than half-full. It feels awful. It slows you down. It makes it hard to feel motivated to go after what you want. It makes it hard to enjoy the things you are surrounded by and have the opportunity to take advantage of. If it becomes severe (such that you've stopped going to work or have a hard time getting out of bed) I will refer you for an evaluation for medication. Much has changed in this arena in the last couple of decades and there are medications that might help you out of the morass and without the complications of side effects that are associated with some of the earlier drugs.
However, hopefully it won't come to that. My aim is to help you figure out what's getting in your way, emotionally, and causing you to feel depressed. If you are motivated to accept new insights to your habitual way of thinking, it's possible to start feeling less depressed and more willing to be present in the world.
There's no magic. I wish there were. Some people come in expecting a "solution" to their problems in five easy lessons, but it doesn't work that way. Therapy is a process, and it applies to depression as well as any other condition or state of mind you might find yourself in. But it's rarely impossible if you're willing to make the commitment to work through your stumbling blocks, you're likely to begin to climb up out of the darkness you feel you're trapped in. I'd like to help you do that.

Depression isn’t just sadness, it can feel like being cut off from your own vitality, moving through life under a heavy fog, or feeling numb and unseen. In my work with depression, I blend somatic therapy, creative exploration, and depth-oriented conversation to help you reconnect to your body’s wisdom and spark. I create a safe, grounded space where you can honor your pain, unravel shame, and discover the strength and insight hidden within even the darkest seasons. Healing from depression isn’t about forcing positivity, it’s about learning to trust your own rhythms and slowly coming back to yourself, one breath at a time.

Depression can be very debilitating especially when people are unaware of what is causing them to be depressed. The weight of past issues can overwhelm us and talk therapy can bring relief as well insights as to how to address this. Many times, unforgiveness and not addressing past hurt can be the source of depressive feelings that need to be dealt with.

Struggles with coping with depression can lead to problems with relationships, work, or other areas of our lives. Through a cooperative, supportive relationship with the right therapist, you can learn how to cope with depression and get more of what you want from life. You can understand what you can and can't control, and if any of your own behaviors and conflicts are contributing to your unhappiness. Depression isn't just sadness—it's the heaviness that makes getting out of bed feel impossible, the numbness that disconnects you from things you used to enjoy, and the voice that tells you nothing will ever change. We approach depression through psychodynamic, somatic, and cognitive frameworks, helping you understand what's underneath the fog while building momentum toward action. Therapy for depression here isn't about toxic positivity or pushing through—it's about reconnecting with yourself, your life, and your sense of what's possible.
