Anxiety or Fears

Emma Hutchinson

Counsellor/Therapist, RCC, RSW, MSW
Anxiety is a normal part of the human experience but often it can eclipse our sense of well-being and ease of moving through the world. It can manifest in different areas of life for different people, for example in social situations or around work or school performance. Counselling can be very effective for people wanting to reduce the impact of anxiety on their lives. Counselling can include: -education to understand the purpose of anxiety and why it can become problematic -learning and practising evidence-based tools (for example, mindfulness skills) that loosen the grip anxiety may have on us -a deeper dive into what is at the roots of our worries, fears, and stressors -addressing the roots of the anxiety. These could relate to boundary-setting, self-esteem, the need for trauma processing, and self-care. I work collaboratively with clients and draw from a variety of models when working with anxiety-related issues including mindfulness-based knowledge and practices, deeper processing through Internal Family Systems and EMDR, and talk therapy approaches. Please feel free to reach out for a free consult if you'd like to connect, see the space, ask any questions you may have and see if working with me would feel like a good fit for you! riverpathcounselling.ca

Anxiety or Fears

Theodosia Daflos

Counsellor/Therapist, MA
Everyone experiences anxiety. It can actually be quite helpful, motivating us to do things that are important to us, or letting us know of potential danger. Anxiety becomes problematic when we're afraid of things that aren't actually dangerous, or when our anxiety stops us from doing things that are important to us. The good news is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for anxiety disorders are among the most successful treatments we have in psychology. They work by teaching you how to accurately evaluate your anxiety triggers to tell if your anxiety reaction is justified or not. If your anxiety reaction doesn't match the threat, you learn skills to help you act more effectively, and manage your emotional reaction in the moment.
