Co dependency is something many of us have learned or sustained in our closest relationships, and may be understood along a continuum. Many of us feel responsible to carry and / or manage the feelings and choices of others; our sense of self and purpose can be derived from taking care of others. This can lead to us carrying too much of an emotional burden and lead to burnout, frustration and relational distress, especially when others don't want to accept our 'help'. We may have perfectionist tendencies and be fearful of rejection, and have difficulty accepting help when we need it ourselves, and this can cause us to work overly hard and make it difficult to say 'no' and set healthy boundaries. As a result we often feel under appreciated, untrusting, overworked and exhausted. Maybe it's time we worked together to understand where or why we have these tendencies and learn to truly value our most authentic self, ,engage in self care and self love, identify and effectively communicate our needs and to become better at setting healthy boundaries without feeling guilty or selfish or fearing conflict or loss of relationships. Is this something that you struggle with?

Many people are familiar with codependency, you might experience it from your childhood with parents, caregivers or siblings, even friends. As adults many people spend years and years in relationships which feel unhealthy in the level of dependency, yet they can't manage "to break the vicious cycle". There are a few very effective techniques in contemporary methods of therapy like Emotion-Image therapy, MACards counselling and Art Therapy where you can tap into your subconscious mind and parts of your that feel the need to be in such a relationship, you can understand the roots of your needs and wants better and more consciously choose what to keep and what to let go of, what borders to set. The main thing is that you connect to yourself on different levels in the better way and that allows to build self-awareness and self-esteem, that can bring more clarity and insights on what you truly want and can accept and allow. As a result some people might leave a codependent relationship, others might reframe it and learn how to co-create a new safe space for yourself and the other person to make the relationship feel healthy and thriving, more enjoyable in the best possible way. As well as how to relate to yourself, how to fulfill your own needs and how to set expectations from your partner /parent / child or whoever you are in relationship with. There are also those who choose to stay in the codependency and that is also a choice and your own responsibility. I truly hope you will make the best decision and choice for yourself to enjoy authentic love, affection, friendship and partnership.
