MindOverHealing Therapies
Hypnotherapist, CHt
Hypnotherapy can help individuals experiencing social isolation by addressing underlying feelings of loneliness, fear, or low self-esteem that may contribute to withdrawal from others. Through guided relaxation and positive suggestion, hypnotherapists support clients in building confidence, reducing self-doubt, and enhancing motivation to connect with others. This process can help reframe negative beliefs about social interaction, foster a greater sense of belonging, and encourage more active participation in community and social activities. As part of an integrated approach, hypnotherapy offers a gentle and supportive pathway for those seeking to overcome isolation and build meaningful connections.

Viktoria Walda Byczkiewicz, Ph.D.
Pre-Licensed Professional, PhD
Especially since the pandemic of 2020, many of us have experienced the profound feelings of disconnection and surreality of social isolation. Others among us are more comfortable at a social distance, at least most of the time. Distancing and isolation may help you to manage anxiety about potential encounters that you wish to avoid, or about which you do not feel confident. You may not have the means to get out and about. For whatever reason you may be isolated, there is still that yearning for connection. Through the relationship that can be developed with a skilled psychotherapist,

David Gumpert
Psychologist, PsyD
Humans are wired for connection and we live increasingly in a world that makes it harder to connect with others, despite technology. My acceptance and commitment therapy approach can support you in understanding why you might not be feeling social, including uncovering how you may be protecting yourself. These then give us the motivation to tolerate the discomfort of moving towards things that are important to us.

Mia Turner
Therapist, MA, RYT, ASDCS, LMFT, NPT-C, CMNCS, CMIP
Support for experiences of loneliness, disconnection, belonging, and the challenges of finding relationships, communities, and environments where you can show up authentically. This work is particularly relevant for neurodivergent, disabled, chronically ill, highly sensitive, LGBTQIA2S+, BIPOC, multicultural, and otherwise marginalized individuals who may have spent years masking, adapting, code-switching, self-monitoring, or feeling unseen, misunderstood, or out of place.
Social isolation is not always about being physically alone. It can also arise from feeling disconnected while surrounded by others, feeling unable to fully express who you are, struggling to find people who share your experiences, or carrying the exhaustion of constantly adapting yourself in order to belong. For many people, experiences of rejection, bullying, exclusion, trauma, discrimination, chronic illness, disability, neurodivergence, or identity-based marginalization can shape not only relationships, but also the nervous system, self-concept, and expectations of connection itself.
This work explores how experiences of belonging, exclusion, attachment, culture, family systems, identity, trauma, and community have influenced the ways you relate to yourself and others. Particular attention is given to the ways masking, people-pleasing, hypervigilance, self-silencing, rejection sensitivity, and other adaptive strategies may have developed in response to environments where authenticity did not always feel safe or welcomed.
My approach integrates mindfulness, somatic therapy, EMDR, parts work, expressive arts, neuropsychotherapy, attachment-focused approaches, and liberation-oriented healing. Rather than focusing on becoming someone different in order to fit in, therapy supports reconnecting with your own voice, values, needs, interests, and authentic ways of relating. Through greater self-understanding, nervous system awareness, and self-trust, space is created for more meaningful connection with yourself, others, and communities where your full humanity can be seen, supported, and understood.
The goal is not simply to reduce loneliness, but to cultivate a deeper sense of belonging—to yourself, to your relationships, to your communities, and to the parts of who you are that may have been hidden, minimized, or left behind in the pursuit of acceptance.

Social isolation often reflects both a longing for connection and a need for emotional protection. My work integrates psychoanalytic exploration and relational understanding to examine the internal conflicts that shape withdrawal and distance. Huntington Beach — 'Surf City USA' — cultivates a strong outdoor and athletic identity that creates particular mental health dynamics around body image, performance anxiety, and the psychological costs of a lifestyle culture that prizes youth and physical capability. The city's predominantly White, affluent coastal character contrasts with pockets of economic precarity and a substance use landscape connected to its beach culture and proximity to the broader Orange County recovery community. Hoag Hospital provides institutional mental health resources alongside a well-established private therapy community serving Huntington Beach and the surrounding South Orange County coastal corridor. The city's proximity to both Los Angeles and the Orange County recovery ecosystem means therapists here frequently work at the intersection of addiction, identity, and the particular stresses of competitive coastal California life.
