Schizophrenia is a specific type of psychosis characterized by delusions and hallucinations. It is considered to be a thought disorder as opposed to a mood disorder such manic-depression (bipolar I and II). Anti-psychotic medications can be helpful initially to "clear" the mind, but I believe the most important aspect of the treatment is the psychoanalytic relationship over a number years. I believe schizophrenia, like all mental illness, is based in traumatic experiences for the individual and can best be dealt with treating the brain with nutrients and the mind with very careful talk therapy over a number of years. You are welcome to call my office at 661-478-0667 for an evaluation.

Dr. Mikaela Zuniga of Building Resilient Minds

Marriage and Family Therapist, DSW, LMFT
For the past eight years, I have specialized in working with individuals living with schizophrenia and severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI), providing intensive Full-Service Partnership (FSP) care and crisis intervention. My experience includes supporting clients in community-based, housing-first, and crisis stabilization settings, ensuring they receive comprehensive, wraparound services tailored to their needs. I have worked closely with individuals and families navigating acute psychiatric crises, hospitalizations, and long-term stabilization, helping them access care, build coping skills, and improve their overall quality of life. My approach is compassionate, recovery-oriented, and strengths-based, empowering clients to regain a sense of autonomy while addressing the complexities of living with a serious mental health condition. I understand the unique challenges that come with supporting a loved one with schizophrenia, and I provide guidance, education, and support to families navigating this journey. Whether through crisis intervention, case management, or long-term therapeutic support, my goal is to help individuals and families find stability, hope, and resilience.
