When you work with me as your family therapist, you will come to understand that calm may not be the goal. Instead, we will be working towards regulation. Anger is often the result of low stress tolerance. Certain folks are just more easily pulled into dysregulation than others and this is not their fault. I like to say, "blame it on the brain." There are many ways to grow one's window of tolerance outside the heat of the moment. Together, we will be using movements, mindfulness, grounding, self-compassion and problem-solving tools to help individuals in families be more connected to themselves as well as each other.

If anger has become unmanageable and affecting relationships and your own health, consider treatment. When we think about Anger, it is often said every "big behavior" comes from an unmet need. Not being heard/seen, misunderstood, feelings of hurt both past and present. If you are ready to get anger under control, consider therapy as a way to learn about the roots of the anger and learn effective coping strategies to appropriately express needs and feelings and decrease angry outbursts.
Anger is a normal human emotion that may be both helpful and harmful. It can protect from danger, motivate for changes; though unmanaged anger can result in harmful behaviors, damaged relationships, and bad consequences. Psychodynamic approach help individual explore the underlying causes of anger, understand the reasons for their intense emotions and develop more healthy ways of expressing anger.
Anger is one of the most misunderstood emotions. Anger is not evil. It is a natural and understandable reaction to an injustice or boundary violation. Ongoing anger problems in adulthood are often reflective of unresolved emotional wounds, usually around neglect, enmeshment, or mistreatment of some kind.
