TREATMENT AND TOOLS FOR TRAUMA

Licensed Psychoanalyst, PH.D., IN PSYCHOANALYSIS AND NEUROSCIENCE, CERTIFIED PSYCHOANALYST, PSY.A, & LICENSED PSYCHOANALYST
Dissociative Disorders occur when the mind is overwhelmed and needs to "check out." This is an automatic process, especially when the person has nowhere to turn for relief from their suffering. Then the mind does its job to protect the person by disconnecting and "going" elsewhere. Dissociative Disorders are almost always the result of trauma, some type of traumatizing experience. In my experience, these kinds of disorders require long-term treatment 2-3 times per week. Just being present in the room with the patient is where I start. Creating a very safe environment that is conducive to talking about your experiences. As the patient begins to experience a safer space I will add the supplements, diet and exercise, and the creation of special "flow experiences" for the patient. You are welcome to call my office at 661-478-0667 for an evaluation.

Arcata, California therapist: Viktoria Walda Byczkiewicz, Ph.D., pre-licensed professional
Dissociative Disorders

Viktoria Walda Byczkiewicz, Ph.D.

Pre-Licensed Professional, PhD
Dissociation typically stems from trauma as a response to keeping a core part of the self safe. Human beings are neurologically wired to protect themselves from harm. Yet this learned response to abuse or terror may no longer serve its purpose and may be inhibiting you from living freely and fully engaging in meaningful activities or relationships. I can help you to explore--unobtrusively and at your pace--how to acquire mastery over the mechanisms that you developed to keep yourself safe.

Santa Ana is one of the most densely populated cities in the United States and has an overwhelmingly Latino population — predominantly Mexican American, with significant Central American communities — making Spanish-speaking and bicultural therapists not a specialty but a baseline requirement for meaningful access to care. The city's families navigate a complex mix of immigration stress, economic precarity, and the particular challenges of raising children across cultures, and therapists fluent in both language and cultural context serve an essential community function. CHOC Children's and the broader Orange County healthcare system provide institutional mental health resources, though access can be limited by insurance and immigration-related barriers. Telehealth has meaningfully expanded therapy access for Santa Ana residents who prefer culturally matched care over what is available locally.
