Greeley is a northern Colorado city home to the University of Northern Colorado and anchored by one of the most significant cattle and meatpacking industries in the United States—JBS USA's Greeley beef processing facility is one of the largest in the country—creating a community shaped by both a university culture and the demanding, dangerous, and psychologically taxing work of large-scale meat processing. The meatpacking workforce is predominantly Latino and immigrant, and the mental health needs of this community—including occupational stress, immigration anxiety, and specific health risks of meatpacking work—contrast sharply with those of the university community, creating a bifurcated mental health landscape. Common therapy concerns include meatpacking occupational trauma and workplace stress, immigration and undocumented status anxiety for the Latino workforce, student mental health at UNC, economic anxiety, and the challenges of a city whose working-class and academic populations navigate quite different daily realities.
