Natalie A Shafer
Counselor/Therapist, MA, NCC, LPC
Grief is not linear, nor is it limited to death or loss. Any uninvited change can bring feelings of mourning and sadness. I offer a supportive space to help you process your experience and find ways to adapt and cope.

Gemstone Wellness, Inc.
Psychologist, PsyD, LCPC, LCSW, LPC
Grief rarely follows a neat timeline, and it can touch every part of your emotional and physical life. At Gemstone Wellness, we provide space for all forms of loss—including the death of a loved one, non-death losses, chronic illness, pregnancy/infant loss, or major life shifts. We don't ask you to "get over it" or rush your process; instead, we help you carry the weight of loss, integrate your grief, and care for your nervous system as you navigate what comes next. In-person care in the Chicago Loop and telehealth across Illinois are available, in-network with BCBS PPO, Aetna PPO, and Curative Health.

Juliette Grantham
Licensed Professional Counselor, MA, LPC
I'm Juliette Grantham, a psychoanalytic psychotherapist specializing in grief and loss.
Grief rarely follows a schedule. It can surface months after a death, arrive in waves that flatten you without warning, or refuse to look the way you expected. Alongside sadness there may be anger at the person who died, relief you feel guilty about, or a numbness that worries you more than tears would. Complicated grief, prolonged grief, and loss without closure, such as an estrangement or a death you never got to say goodbye to, can leave mourning with nowhere to settle.
I work psychoanalytically, which means none of these reactions is treated as wrong. Each one carries its own unconscious logic worth understanding: what this person meant to you, and what the loss has disturbed. When grief gets stuck, it often means something in it has not yet been allowed to be felt or spoken. In sessions we make room for that, at your own pace, rather than asking you to move on in the sense of leaving the person behind. Over time, grief that is given real attention tends to soften, and what remains becomes something you can carry rather than something that sits on top of your life.
If a loss has been harder to carry than the people around you seem to understand, I would be glad to talk.

Normalizing the complexities of grief is of the utmost importance. Everyone processes grief differently. In counseling sessions, providers hold space for the grieving client, while providing empathy, and helping clients regain strength as they heal.
