Dr. Munazza Abraham

Psychologist, PhD
I specialize in trauma treatment using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), an evidence-based approach that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they no longer carry the same emotional intensity. EMDR allows clients to heal without having to repeatedly retell painful experiences in detail. My trauma work is paced, compassionate, and grounded in safety. Together, we can unpack and challenge internalized messages, build coping skills to navigate life’s ups and downs, and strengthen your capacity to live in alignment with your values and self-defined purpose. My practice emphasizes that “Community is medicine” with my creation of therapy groups to increase your sense of belonging and enhance collective healing. I also tap into ancestral knowledge, holistic and evidence-based practices, and the arts, all combined with your interests to tailor your healing experience.

Trauma can leave lasting effects, whether from a single event or ongoing experiences. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) may show up as flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, or feeling emotionally numb and disconnected. These symptoms can interfere with daily life, relationships, and your sense of safety in the world. In therapy, I provide a trauma-informed, compassionate space where healing is possible. Using approaches like EMDR, somatic techniques, and evidence-based trauma therapies, we’ll work together to reduce distress, restore a sense of calm, and help you reclaim your life with greater balance, resilience, and strength.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSWC-C
Trauma can leave deep marks—flashbacks, anxiety, or feeling “on edge” long after the event has passed. PTSD may make it hard to trust, relax, or feel safe in your own body. In therapy, I provide a calm and supportive space where you can process what happened at your own pace. Together, we’ll work on reducing triggers, rebuilding a sense of safety, and creating tools that help you move forward with strength and resilience.

PTSD is a complicated thing to treat and actually responds a lot better to behavioral techniques rather than "talk therapy." Trauma affects the body and nervous system and is much more complex than a lot of people realize. I can help clients prevent and handle flashbacks more easily as well as decrease PTSD symptoms overall by using a technique called TRE (Trauma Releasing Exercise). Often talking about the trauma makes it worse and the goal is not to relive the trauma. The goal is to help clients separate "past" from "present" so that the traumatic event feels "done and over." While we can't change the past, we can help clients learn to stay in the present instead of being re-traumatized by memories of past events. I can provide EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Re-processing) which is a non-invasive effect method that neutralizes the emotional "charge" attached to traumatic memories. It is best use for single traumatic events (rather than years of traumatic circumstances in childhood for example). EMDR and TRE can only be done in person due to the equipment I use.

Restoring authentic right connection to self in spite of trauma In treating Trauma and PTSD, we use sandplay and somatic focusing to discharge survival energy that talk therapy often can't reach. We move at the pace of your nervous system, ensuring that the "Deep-Sea Diving" we do stays within your window of tolerance. Our goal is to move you from a state of constant surveillance to a state of prophetic peace.

"Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom." We can't change what happened to us, but we can change how we respond to trauma. I am a trauma-informed therapist who specialized in treating people with trauma history. I was trained in strengths-based trauma recovery and somatic experiencing to help clients release their traumatic responses, regulate their physical responses, and connect their body and mind.
