Marg Totten Counselling Therapy
Licensed Mental Health Counsellor, MA, MPCC, CPCC, LCT
Interpersonal violence is often truly a hidden epidemic, as victims often suffer silently with symptoms of past trauma, present fear and terror, isolation, a sense of unworthiness, and lack of trust that real help is available. The potential for domestic abuse occurs in all expressions of relationship, culture, and religion, and being seen, heard, believed and helped in a timely manner is critical to those who reach out when experiencing abuse. It would be my honor to help you find relevant resources for safety planning and healing and to journey with you as you heal from violence perpetrated against you.

Daniel Klassen
Psychologist, Provisional, (P7619) with CAP in Alberta & Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC 19147) with BCACC, for elsewhere in Canada
Domestic abuse and violence are tragically more common than many realize—and far more common than they should be. It often begins subtly, when one person in a close relationship becomes frustrated or emotionally unsettled, and begins to mistreat the other. At first, the behavior might seem minor—cutting remarks, dismissive tones, or small acts of disrespect. But when left unaddressed, these behaviors can intensify, growing more damaging over time.
Abuse tends to follow a disturbing pattern: pain and frustration in the more powerful individual are often displaced onto the less powerful, creating a cycle of harm marked by confusion, fear, anger, and diminishing well-being for everyone involved. If this cycle continues unchecked, it can escalate into serious physical and emotional abuse—and in the most extreme cases, even torture or death.
Daniel experienced this firsthand. As a youth, he was an innocent bystander in his own home, where unresolved anger and violence ultimately led to his hospitalization. From that experience, he came to understand the madness and tragedy of this cycle—how it is fueled by unprocessed emotional pain and the absence of healthy intervention.
Today, Daniel dedicates himself to helping others break free from the chaos. Through his work, he seeks to unravel the pain and confusion at the heart of abuse, foster understanding, and guide individuals and families toward healing, freedom, and the possibility of a safer, more compassionate future.
