Past Window stress experiences can develop into anxiety, fears, and trauma when continued more than 30 days. The trauma is then stored in the neural processes as implicit memories that are almost always subconscious. These subconscious memories can lay dormant until stimulated into activity in the Present Window. Once activated the Present Window behaviors often result in the same fears and learned responses to the Past Window fears including helplessness and hopeless (depression).
Helplessness and hopelessness reflects low self-esteem when one cannot change others or circumstances or oneself. It is
often also reflected in one blaming oneself for the stress experience and/or or subsequently feeling guilty.
