I have six years' specialized experience supporting persons with dementia and their family and I draw on this experience to support you. Though I haven't yet worked with any Alzheimers clients, I have worked with some Parkinson's subjects as well as other neurological problems. Hypnosis has been shown to be effective in helping with Parkinson's tremors as well as other aspects of the condition including depression. I was asked if I could help someone suffering from a condition called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, which is related to ALS or Lou Gehrigs disease. It is a condition with no cure or treatment. When I first met the client, he had been deteriorating for 12 years and was expected to die soon. He was confined to a wheelchair and could no longer speak. He drooled constantly and though wearing a bib, already in the morning was soaked with saliva. He suffered from tremors and got locked in repetitive movements several times a day, had trouble sleeping and couldn't get motivated to do his physical therapy, the only thing his doctors could offer him. In our first session, we were able to eliminate the tremors and repetitive movements, get him to sleep more soundly, and motivate him to do his PT. After the second session he was able to speak for the first time in ears and he got out of his wheelchair and walked. After 5 sessions you couldn't even tel he was sick and now, 6 years later, he's till walking the dog, gardening, hiking his favorite trails.

Mia Klassen
Licensed Professional Counsellor, MPCC #3875, CT #2438, LSCC
Watching someone you love disappear into dementia is one of life's most painful journeys. I walked this path with my mother through every stage of Alzheimer's, and I understand the exhaustion, grief, and guilt that caregivers carry. Together, we'll create space for your complex emotions—the love and the resentment, the hope and the despair. You'll learn to regulate your nervous system amid the chaos, find compassion for yourself in impossible moments, and navigate each stage with greater clarity. This isn't about fixing what can't be fixed—it's about sustaining yourself while honoring both your loved one and your own well-being.

Halifax is Atlantic Canada's largest city and a hub for universities, the military, and ocean-tech industries, creating a therapy community serving students, naval personnel, and knowledge workers navigating the pressures of high-achieving careers in a smaller city. Dalhousie University and Canadian Forces Base Halifax generate distinct demand for therapists who specialize in academic stress, military trauma, and the particular challenges of military family life. Nova Scotia Health provides public mental health services, with a private therapy community serving the South End, Bedford, and Dartmouth. Halifax's relatively small size means specialist therapist availability can be limited in some areas, and telehealth has become especially important for accessing care across Atlantic Canada.
