Social comparison to others and the need for social recognition and approval, in particular, can lead to feelings of low self-worth, obsessive self-criticism, and unrealistic expectations and perceptions about the body. The wrong kinds of social media may perpetuate the vicious cycle. In counseling, I can work with you to build buffers against negative effects of social comparison and external messages.
