Although it is normal to have what is colloquially known as the “baby blues” following the birth of a child, this tends to naturally go away not too long after. PPD can start during the pregnancy to one year after the birth of a child, where the sufferer will show the typical effects of depression which affects their mood; the way they feel about themselves, how they relate to others, and how they interact with the rest of the world. Ultimately, PPD affects people from many different walks of life, regardless of the ease or difficulty of the pregnancy, whether they are a first-time parent or have other children, whether they are married or not, and regardless of socioeconomic status, education, and cultural background.

Registered Psychotherapist, RP(qualifying), MACP
After my own experience postpartum as a psychotherapist I realized there is an intense need for therapists to better understand and support people through their postpartum journey. If I struggled as someone trained and experienced in psychotherapy what about the new parents who do not have that knowledge? I want to give back and be a support at such a beautiful but very difficult time.

The postpartum period is a delicate time. The reality of parenthood is oftentimes different from what we tend to see in media and many parents face challenges with anxiety and depression shortly after the arrival of their baby. During this time, therapy can provide you with a safe space where you can learn that what you are experiencing is valid and that you are not alone in the struggles you are facing. As a therapist, I will you meet you with compassion, check in with you often, help you to process what you are feeling, and support you in developing tools to feel more empowered and confident in this new chapter.
