Treatment Approach
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
- Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) An evidence-based treatment for PTSD that teaches clients to reframe unhelpful thoughts about trauma. It helps reduce guilt, shame, and fear.
- Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
- Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
- Gestalt Therapy Encourages awareness of thoughts, feelings, and actions in the present moment. It helps people integrate different parts of themselves for wholeness.
- Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
- Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
- Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
- Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: My approach is evidence-based and collaborative—we pick the right tool for the right job and keep what works.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): restructure unhelpful beliefs, run behavioural experiments, and build routines that lift mood and reduce anxiety.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills: emotion regulation, distress-tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness for reactivity, anger, and relationship strain.
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT): a gold-standard protocol for trauma/PTSD that helps you process stuck points and reclaim a sense of safety.
Exposure & response-prevention / behavioural activation: graded, data-driven change for OCD, phobias, and avoidance; activity scheduling to treat depression.
Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) & Mindfulness-Based CBT (MBCT): reduce shame and rumination while strengthening nervous-system calm.
Motivational Interviewing (MI) & Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): sharpen motivation and generate rapid, achievable next steps.
Person-Centred, Narrative, Existential/Gestalt: ensure therapy stays human—values, meaning, and a story that fits who you are now.
You’ll always know the plan, the reason behind each exercise, and the measure we’re using to track progress. The goal is simple: feel better, function better, and sustain the gains long after therapy ends.

I’m Edan Tasca, a therapist with Durham Psychotherapy, part of Ontario Therapy Group. I offer online counselling throughout Ontario and work from a straightforward promise: therapy should be effective, human, and anchored in the best available research.
Who I help: adults and older teens facing anxiety (general, health, social, performance), depression, trauma and PTSD, OCD and intrusive thoughts, grief, anger, burnout and workplace stress, relationship and men’s concerns, life transitions, and self-esteem. If you’ve tried to think your way out of it and keep getting pulled back into the same loop, we’ll build skills that interrupt the cycle and restore momentum.
How we’ll work: the first sessions set goals and a weekly rhythm. You’ll learn body-based regulation to calm the nervous system, then targeted strategies (e.g., CBT thought and behaviour change, DBT emotion regulation and distress-tolerance, CPT for trauma, exposure for anxiety/OCD, mindfulness for rumination) matched to your case. Between visits you’ll test one small, trackable action—I’ll be clear about the why so you know exactly how it helps.
Access: secure video sessions with evening options; direct billing offered to many employer benefits plans in Ontario. If you’re looking for practical in-person or online therapy in Ontario that’s warm and results-oriented, book a free 15-minute consult and we’ll map your next steps.
