Depression is a mind and body experience which leaves clients feeling despair and hopelessness. My compassionate approach will meet you where you are with empathy and gentle guidance to find beauty and hope again.
Depression can be physically and mentally exhausting. It affects our mood, energy levels, interest, motivation, sleep, relationships, and general daily function. I have extensive experience helping clients identify and address triggers for their depressive symptoms. I am also skilled in crisis management, safety planning, and identifying and addressing suicidal ideation. Treatment is tailored to each client's needs and goals. Common modalities used during therapy may include Crisis Intervention, EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. There may also be a focus on reducing physical symptoms of stress through relaxation, grounding techniques, and self-care.
I use research-based techniques to help clients improve symptoms of depression. My education, clinical, and personal experiences with depression qualify me to teach coping skills depressed mood or loss of interest or pleasure. Culturally-responsive and developmentally appropriate practices are incorporated to help clients achieve treatment goals.
Depression happens when our systems become hopeless and disempowered. I create a peaceful and accepting environment for depressed parts so we can together witness their stories and slowly begin to experience the difference between you (Self) and the depressed parts who have pulled away from the world in order to stay safe. There are always good reasons underneath the withdrawal and isolation. With gentleness and compassion, I help people bring witnessing and affirmation to depressed parts as well as honor parts who do have a desire to live a more vibrant and connected life. By honoring both sides of the dilemma, a new balance can come about. When the system experiences the space to share and be accepted, there can be more room for a deeper understanding of the wounds that fuel the hopelessness and isolation. Then in small steps at a time, glimmers of hope can emerge and deeper healing can take place.
