Approach Description: Because I believe that encouragement is key to a client making appropriate choices to enrich self-interests and social interests, my techniques will include Adlerian techniques supplemented with cognitive-behavioral therapies, person-centered, reality therapy, and solution-focused therapy. These techniques will provide methods to solve problems utilizing the client’s own strengths to meet their needs. Dr. Sharese Martin Practice Description
As a counselor, my areas of competence include individual counseling, group counseling, couples and family counseling. I am not able to prescribe medications to clients. My education as a counselor began at Prairie View A&M University in the summer of 2005. I believe that clients can interpret, influence, and create events that will resolve their problems and add meaning to their lives with my assistance as a counselor. I believe that clients are responsible for their own behaviors, thoughts and feelings. As a counselor, I hope to develop within clients a greater self-awareness through their perceptions of life experiences that will build confidence, create change, and provide them a greater capacity to effectively navigate the complex challenges of life. Your self-awareness, self-esteem, mental health, and fulfillment are my goals. Some clients need only a few counseling sessions to achieve these goals, while others may require more counseling. As a client, you maintain control of yourself and you may end our counseling relationship at any point, and I will be supportive of that position. If you are dissatisfied with my work, I will help you find another counselor with whom you might be able to work effectively.
