Jenn Zatopek
Counselor/Therapist, LPC, EMDR
I'm a trauma specialist, and I use EMDR and mindfulness to help you heal from past pain. EMDR helps to unlock the trauma from the nervous system, but I don't start out doing EMDR. I start out doing a lot of resourcing and grounding to help you feel safe inside your own skin. Then when you are ready to begin processing we can do so.

Psychologist, PhD
A myriad of definitions exist for "trauma." Bad things happen in life - that's part of being alive. But I view the definition as: trauma is when bad things happen, and you feel you have no way out. Trauma can result from one event or a chronic situation. I primarily utilize Coherence Therapy, which is an approach to treatment that is different from many others in that - instead of focusing on what is "negative" or "wrong" as a result of a traumatic experience - the purpose is to genuinely understand a person's symptoms; to curiously explore why maintaining certain patterns of thinking and behavior is emotionally necessary, even when a person is feeling stuck because of those patterns. Understanding the symptom leads to identifying the underlying emotional reasons of why we do things and addresses the cause of feeling stuck, not just the symptom, which then leads to meaningful and lasting changes. If you can uproot the cause, there is no need for life-long maintenance of coping with it.

Elizabeth Starnes
Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC-S, ATR, REAT
Trauma impacts every area of our lives - how we see ourselves, others and the world. It can destroy our sense of safety, trust, esteem, intimacy, and power/control. We create stories that are untrue and cause ourselves pain. I enjoy adding Expressive Arts Therapy to Cognitive Processing Therapy. Expressive arts can be a way to express oneself non-verbally which has helped many clients access their connection to their body and emotions. Trauma creates a disconnect from the mind and body. Almost as if we become a floating head. I have witnessed several clients reconnect to their feelings and body through keeping an art journal and sharing in session. In addition, overtime they were able to access their own insight and inner wisdom. Working on trauma is scary for many people. There is no pressure to follow a prescribed course or use art. I understand how difficult it is to share the story and trust a new therapist. I work at a client's comfort level and pace.

Tina Nickels

I have experience working with those who have a history of trauma or a diagnosis of PTSD. I am compassionate and have a naturally calm demeanor that encourages clients to relax and open up. I will not pressure a client, but instead I listen and lead. There are many sources and types of trauma, and no two people are alike. Together we will explore the path to healing.
