David J Schlosz

Licensed Professional Counselor, PhD, LPC-S
When people begin therapy, they are often carrying far more than anyone around them realizes. Beneath the anxiety, exhaustion, overthinking, shame, conflict, or loneliness is often a person who has spent years trying to survive, hold everything together, meet expectations, and remain strong for everyone else. My work as a therapist is rooted in helping people reconnect with themselves beneath those survival strategies. I believe healing happens most deeply through authentic human connection. While insight and coping skills are important, lasting transformation often occurs when people feel truly seen, emotionally safe, and no longer alone in their experience. My approach to therapy is relational, compassionate, grounded, and integrative. I draw from attachment theory, somatic approaches, existential therapy, mindfulness, and relational-cultural frameworks to help clients better understand not only their thoughts, but also the emotional and nervous system patterns that shape their lives and relationships. As both a therapist and counselor educator, I have spent years helping people navigate shame, trauma, grief, identity struggles, relational pain, anxiety, burnout, and the quiet sense of disconnection many people carry beneath the surface. I work especially well with individuals who are insightful and self-aware, yet still find themselves repeating painful patterns, struggling to trust themselves, or feeling emotionally stuck despite “knowing better.” I do not view people as broken. I see symptoms as intelligent adaptations to pain, loss, fear, and unmet needs. Therapy is not about becoming someone else. It is about coming home to yourself with greater compassion, honesty, courage, and freedom. My hope is to create a space where clients can slow down, breathe, explore their inner world without judgment, and begin building a life that feels more authentic, connected, and sustainable. Healing is not about perfection. It is about learning to relate to yourself and others in ways that bring greater wholeness, presence, and aliveness.

Arvada, Colorado therapist: Jillian Lees, licensed clinical social worker
Integrative Therapy

Jillian Lees

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW
My therapeutic approach focuses on the whole person. Specifically, working with female millennial clients. We carry many different identities within ourselves. I want to assist, through a strengths' based approach, on how you can feel better and obtain greater awareness of your thoughts and behaviors, and why we think and act in certain ways. I work in a collaborative manner with clients, on what may work best for their individual healing. My therapeutic approaches include solutions focused, humanistic, and mindfulness. But I tailor therapy sessions to the individual person, so some therapeutic approaches may be outside of this box.

Frisco, Texas therapist: Sarah Sustaita, pre-licensed professional
Integrative Therapy

Sarah Sustaita

Pre-Licensed Professional, MS, LPC Associate, LPCC
You understand what’s going on, but your body didn’t get the memo. You may feel stuck in patterns of pain, shutdown, or overwhelm that don’t match what you know. I work with individuals (ages 16+) navigating chronic pain, trauma, dissociation, and long-standing stress. Many of the people I work with have already done a lot of thinking about themselves or tried therapy before, but still feel caught in how their body continues to respond. I help bridge the gap between insight and embodied change. Together, we focus on understanding how these patterns live in both the mind and body, using approaches that support nervous system regulation, processing of unresolved experiences, and increased connection to your internal signals. Through this work, clients often begin to experience shifts not just in how they think, but in how they feel and respond on a day-to-day level.

Lubbock is home to Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center — the city's largest employers and the anchors of its mental health training and clinical infrastructure — creating a therapy community shaped significantly by student mental health demand and the research programs feeding practitioners into the broader region. The city's conservative religious character and large evangelical community mean faith-integrated therapy is a prominent part of the local offering, with many therapists explicitly integrating spiritual values into evidence-based work. Lubbock's role as the commercial center for a vast agricultural and energy-producing West Texas region means it also draws therapy clients from smaller surrounding towns with no local access. Covenant Health and University Medical Center serve as the major institutional mental health anchors for the South Plains.
