Depression needs to be carefully assessed with respect to identifying the difference between longstanding clinical depression and reactive depression arising from particular stressful and disturbing events. In the former, a risk assessment is part of my approach regarding suicidal ideation and the need to work collaboratively with other professionals. In both types of depression I place importance on the impact of early history and traumatic events

Illume Psychology is a boutique psychology practice that offers a nurturing space to meaningfully and collaboratively work through your inner troubles. Depressed feelings can be painful and isolating, and necessitate the thoughtful and skilled attention of a dedicated therapist to provide support, help make sense of your experiences and bring to awareness problematic patterns of thought and behaviour to empower you to create sustained change in your life.
My work focuses upon an holistic view of the individual and their history. This means our focus is less upon individual 'symptoms' and alleviation of these, and more upon what the 'symptom' might be communicating about imbalance in the individual. This leads on to an examination as to what needs to change at the level of body, mind, emotion and spirit.

Shame and grief are vastly difference to one another, as to which the former relates to self-concept and the latter to a sense of meaninglessness and hopelessness.

One in five people are diagnosed with Depression at some time in their lives due to challenges in their lives. Gaining skills, strategies and exploring both the issues and responses assist with improving responses and engaging in life.
For depression, I use a relational and attachment-based approach that fosters clarity of thought and self-compassion. An important aim of therapy is to increase motivation to engage in mood-enhancing behaviours and enhance/deepen social contact. I also support people in exploring any underlying issues or unresolved conflicts contributing to depression.
