Dabaco Doldissen
Counsellor/Therapist, GradDip Gestalt Therapy
Feeling like you're needing some guidance on your life path? A therapist can also be a life coach, being a healthy sounding board, voice of curiosity and sometimes challenging your ideas to help you get clarity on where you stand. Talking through the options and allowing the feelings to be felt can have a profound impact on working out what the next steps in life will be. Dr George Booty. The PsychoTRAUMA Clinic (Convergence College of Psychotherapy)
Registered Psychotherapist, Dr, DPsych, MA Couns, MA Psych, PG Dip Spvn
Life Coaching is the latest fad found in training, within counselling/coaching these days. Personally i don't think it is an alliance of those two but rather an alliance between 'coaching and psychotherapy', because in counselling one must not offer advice or make suggestions other than look at options, counsellors are not to take responsibility for clients decision making, so altering a persons life decisions could be quite consequential for the worst, we are told. So for a life change in direction, It needs to come from the client, or it's not true counselling. Coaching is something else and a good coach needs the in depth training in psychotherapy experience and to comprehend the deep workings of the mind to make a significant improvement for the better and the client needs to be aware you have that extra wisdom that comes from the work as a psychotherapist and not as a simple counsellor.

Life coaching is for those who feel ready to make a change—but aren’t quite sure where to begin. Whether you're navigating a career shift, rebuilding after a breakup, or longing to live with more clarity and confidence, coaching offers focused support to help you move forward.
Unlike therapy, which often explores the past and unconscious patterns, coaching is more present- and future-focused. Together, we clarify your values, identify what’s holding you back, and co-create practical steps toward a more authentic and fulfilling life.
It’s a space for accountability, insight, and meaningful action—rooted in honesty, care, and your own inner wisdom.
