Washington, District of Columbia therapist: Dr. Wayne Bullock, psychologist
Anger Management

Dr. Wayne Bullock

Psychologist, PsyD, MEd
There is a lot in life that can make us feel angry. Anger can leave us feeling consumed, frozen, or out of control. None of these feelings leave us feeling like it is easy to connect or enjoy life. You might have learned growing up that anger is not allowed, or for people who were socialized as men, that anger is the only appropriate feeling. Either way, if you struggle with feeling angry (too angry, afraid of being angry, unable to express your anger) then I can help you in learning more about it in a way that can allow for you to connect more fully with yourself and others.

Eric Weinstein

Life Coach, Hypnosis and NLP, shamanic healing, Energy Psychology (including "tapping"), Voice Dialogue
I understand anger, the effect it has on one’s life, and how it affects the people around you. When clients see me as a peaceful guy, they’re seeing the result of a lot of healing work (with more to do). I’ve had considerable success helping clients with anger problems, perhaps because I believe anger management is secondary to healing. I believe most people who are angry are like volcanos. Even though the anger that shows on the surface in the present is hot enough to burn the client and everyone around him or her, there’s even more heat and energy “under ground” – in the past. So I usually focus on healing the past first – without having to spend a lot of time talking about it. Once that unresolved pain and anger is mostly dissolved, clients don’t get triggered as easily or as forcefully. The next focus is on reducing everyday frustrations. When the little things don't bug you as much, you'll be cooler under pressure and when bigger problems come up. , and have enough presence of mind to use anger management tools instead of losing control. Note: I don’t do court-mandated anger management. If you live in Fairfax County, call my colleague Gary Niki at 202-241-0944.

Schema Therapy treats anger in terms of looking at it as a "mode" that is being triggered. We examine unmet needs as well as strengthening your Healthy Adult mode to make it more effective in filling these needs. At times it may be connected to a lack of limits, and if so, we set a plan to practice implementing appropriate limits that you may wish to try for. If you are angry, you don't want to just bury it. You want to listen to it, and find out what it is all about. That does not mean acting on it, but using it as an awareness tool and energy in your tank to get some unmet needs met perhaps.
