Hey there!
My name is Maddie - and if you're looking for a relatable therapist with whom you will likely share many laughs, keep reading!
I work with teens, young adults, students, and adults of all ages in person in Hamilton, and virtually all across Ontario.
Therapy can be both challenging and delightful, we can make jokes, tune into the language of the body, be creative, cry, be silly, and also have deep, profound moments of self-discovery.
During our sessions, I aim to bring a mix of compassion, warmth, honesty, humour, and a touch of play to our work together. Life can be an interesting rollercoaster, full of ups, downs, and intense loop-de-loops that make you feel nauseous, and you don't have to ride it alone. If you're keen to keep growing and deepening your self-awareness, I’d be happy to hop on this wild ride alongside you.

Treatment Approach
- Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
- Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
- Hakomi Method A mindfulness-based approach that helps clients notice unconscious patterns in their body and mind. It emphasizes compassion and non-judgment.
- Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
- Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
- Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
- Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
- Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: My approach involves going with the flow of each session, and prioritizing helping you feel seen and heard in whatever it is that you're experiencing. I am not the kind of therapist that gives you handouts. Each session, we will explore whatever feels present for you in your mind, body, and spirit, and allow the session to naturally unfold- making space for us to connect with the important internal wisdom is waiting to be uncovered, and making space to release whatever stress is ready to leave your system. I draw from emotion-focused therapy, decolonizing perspectives, body-based somatic approaches, movement interventions, experiential therapy, parts work, metaphors, narrative and story, inner child work, strengths-based therapy, solution-focused therapy, play-based therapy, and recognizing the patterns and themes in our lives.
Together, we can work on deepening your self-awareness of patterns and themes that exist in your life, we can help you understand the language of your nervous system and build a self-regulation toolbox that you can reference in moments that feel challenging and out of control, we can build unique self-awareness language that helps us understand and explain your experiences which might include metaphor and parts language (think Inside out 1 & 2), we can expand on your connection to your felt sense, somatic attunement, and understanding of the language of your body, we can help you understand how you can complete the stress cycles that we hold onto for so many years of our lives, and lastly- we can try to have fun while doing therapy!
