If you're a woman who's spent years doing everything "right"—achieving, handling, holding it together—you may have noticed that success didn't fill the gap you thought it would. I work with capable, high-achieving women who are realizing they want more than functioning: they want to actually know themselves, and to let the people in their life know them too. Many of my clients grew up being told they were "too sensitive" or "too much." I believe sensitivity isn't the problem to manage away—it's a strength that got mislabeled, and often the very thing that makes deep connection possible. Together, we slow down enough to build a real relationship with yourself, not just a polished explanation of yourself. I offer virtual therapy across Colorado, Washington, and all PSYPACT states, specializing in anxiety, perfectionism, and relational and sexual trauma. If you're ready to stop managing your sensitivity and start using it, I'd love to talk.

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Gestalt Therapy Encourages awareness of thoughts, feelings, and actions in the present moment. It helps people integrate different parts of themselves for wholeness.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Schema Therapy Identifies deep-rooted negative patterns formed in childhood. It combines CBT, attachment theory, and experiential methods for change.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: I don't run every client through the same protocol. Instead, I draw from a few evidence-based approaches and use whichever tools actually fit what's in front of us, session to session. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps us get some distance from the anxious, self-critical thoughts that tend to run the show—not by arguing with them, but by changing your relationship to them, so they stop dictating what you do. Internal Family Systems (IFS) is especially useful for clients who've built a lot of internal structure to stay functional: the part of you that overworks, the part that people-pleases, the part that shuts down before things get too vulnerable. We get curious about those parts instead of trying to override them, which tends to be a very different experience than just "thinking your way through it." EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is where we go when talking about something hasn't been enough to actually change how it feels in your body. It's particularly effective for relational and sexual trauma that's been intellectualized or minimized for years—the kind of thing you can explain perfectly but still feel wired to react to. Underneath all three: my job isn't to help you produce a cleaner explanation of yourself. It's to help you build an actual relationship with yourself—one that's honest, ongoing, and doesn't require you to have it all figured out first. For a lot of my clients, that's the part that finally makes therapy feel different from just talking to a very smart friend. Sessions are entirely virtual, and I'm licensed in Colorado, Washington, and all PSYPACT states.

Amanda Etienne Practice Description
I work with adult women who've spent their lives being the capable one—the one who handles it, who doesn't need to be worried about, who figured it out on her own. If that's you, you've probably gotten very good at managing your emotions instead of actually feeling them. This practice exists for the moment you're ready to stop managing and start understanding. Many of the women I work with are high achievers and intellectualizers. You can explain yourself clearly—you just haven't had much practice being with yourself. We'll work on that together: not by producing more insight, but by building an actual relationship with what you feel, so you're not just narrating your life from the outside. My specialties include anxiety, perfectionism, and relational and sexual trauma. A lot of my clients don't walk in using the word "trauma"—they come in because a relationship didn't work out, or because they've started noticing a pattern they can't unsee. We follow that thread wherever it leads, at a pace that actually works for your nervous system. I draw from ACT, IFS, and EMDR, and I tailor the approach to what you need rather than running everyone through the same protocol. My caseload is intentionally small so I can offer real depth, not a rotating cast of fifteen-minute check-ins. Practice details: 100% virtual—sessions from wherever you are Licensed in Colorado, Washington, and all PSYPACT states Private pay; I partner with Thrizer to help clients pursue out-of-network reimbursement Ideal for women in their 30s who've "done everything right" and are ready to slow down enough to actually know themselves If any of this sounds like you, I'd love to talk.
