If you’ve done years of talk therapy and still find yourself stuck in the same patterns, part of the story may be held in your body. As a licensed counselor and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, I work directly with the nervous system, helping you notice what’s happening physically in the moment and giving old survival responses room to settle and finish. I came to this work through my own developmental trauma, addiction, and depression. That history helps me meet people struggling with alcohol, drugs, or pornography without judgment, whether you’re aiming for abstinence or harm reduction. I hold a Colorado Certified Addiction Specialist credential and have been in practice since 2014. I also work with complex PTSD, adoptee struggles, and couples, drawing on PACT and attachment-based approaches. More than twenty years of meditation and a master’s in Mindfulness-Based Transpersonal Counseling from Naropa University inform everything I do, so spiritual questions are welcome. Expect warmth, curiosity, and some dry humor. Online therapy is available to Colorado residents. Clients outside Colorado can work with me through somatic coaching by video. Private pay, superbills available, free consultation.

Treatment Approach

  • Contemplative Psychotherapy Combines mindfulness and meditation practices with modern psychology. It encourages awareness and compassion as part of the healing process.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
  • Transpersonal Therapy Integrates spirituality and higher states of consciousness with psychology. It encourages growth beyond the individual self.
Approach Description: My primary approach is Somatic Experiencing (SE), a body-based method for resolving trauma developed by Peter Levine. When something overwhelming happens, the nervous system can get stuck in a state of alarm or shutdown long after the danger has passed. SE works gently with physical sensation, helping you notice tension, impulses, and shifts in your body so that those stuck responses can complete and settle. We go slowly and in small doses, so you never have to relive a painful experience to heal from it. Sessions combine conversation with moments of tracking what’s happening in your body right now. You might notice where you feel anxious or calm, explore a sensation with curiosity, or practice orienting to your surroundings. Over time, this builds your capacity to stay present with difficult feelings without being flooded by them. With addiction and compulsive behaviors, I see the urge to use as an understandable attempt to regulate a nervous system in distress. We look at what the behavior has been protecting you from, and build other ways to find relief. With couples, I draw on PACT and attachment theory to help partners understand each other’s nervous systems, interrupt reactive cycles, and become a reliable source of safety for one another. Mindfulness and contemplative practice inform all of my work, and I welcome spiritual questions without requiring any particular belief.
