Just being a human is challenging. A therapeutic relationship is one that creates a safe space to reflect on who you are and what you experience, learn to relate to those experiences differently, and empowers you to make choices about how you want to be. My work is to support you, build awareness and understanding, and ultimately to help guide you towards living a full, vital, and connected life - as you define it.

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Behavioral
  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
  • Compassion Focus Therapy
Approach Description: I practice primarily using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy; a mindfulness-informed approach to helping you live a life defined by your own personal values. This approach allows us to explore new perspectives, clarify your purpose, and develop new possibilities for living a meaningful life. I appreciate this approach because it can deepen the therapy experience, help us honor our most painful experiences, and empower even small moves toward a life lived with meaning and purpose. Perspective: By slowing and down and looking at things in a new way, we can learn to develop a new perspective on even our most painful feelings and experiences, our history, our current situation, and begin to live life a little more freely. Purpose: In today’s world or just when life changes hit hard, we don’t always know what matters to us at the deepest level. Learning to identify and strengthen our values, or an inner sense of purpose, can help us live more intentionally and meaningfully. Possibility: Slowing down and living with purpose allows for new possibilities in life. By learning to live with experiences, and with intention, we can take daily steps —whether it be one small step, or a big bold move — on our meaningful life path.

Jennifer Plumb Vilardaga, PhD Practice Description
I have been a practicing psychologist for over 10 years, completing my training and working in academic hospital settings (Seattle VA hospital and at Duke University psychiatry clinics) as an outpatient psychotherapist. Working in these environments helped me learn how to meet you where you are in your life, and adapt therapy approaches with a strong evidence base to each client's personal experience. I work well with anxiety, perfectionism, burnout and professional challenges, navigating life transitions, parenting and caregiving stress, challenges with aging or medical conditions, grief/loss, loneliness, and those experiencing discrimination or difficulties related to identity. Whether it is your first time seeking care or you have had therapy before, I believe it is important to take time to learn about your concerns from multiple perspectives. Perhaps you are experiencing a sudden life change, or you may be struggling to cope with longer patterns of distress or trauma. I aim to work with you to create a collaborative therapeutic relationship to help you move toward your chosen life goals. In my practice, I aim to be welcoming and to create a safe space for everyone, regardless of their background or experience. I also care about understanding everyone in the context of their personal, often intersecting, identities and am trauma-informed in all that I do. I am actively anti-racist, gender-affirming and LGBTQIA+ affirming, and my created family is bilingual and multicultural. I respect all cultures and aim to connect with you as a unique human on this earth.
