Lee Scher (He/Him)

A safe, affirming space for intuitive, highly-sensitive and neurodivergent adults healing from complex trauma --my approach is contemplative and unhurried. It supports you in coming home to yourself. Some of us learned early that our inner weather was "too much" for our parents or family to handle- that it was safer to go quiet . . . to forget about our own feelings and focus on our caregivers. If you grew up being called "too sensitive" or "too intense" you may still carry that distrust of your own felt experience, the deep fatigue of constant masking, and the assumption that there's something wrong with you. I'm an Autistic therapist, and much of my work is with people who were never quite accepted or met for who they are. I'm also a writer and a longtime student of Buddhism and depth psychology. I bring that sensibility--curious, and attentive to image and meaning--into my practice. The parts of you that got exiled aren't broken or shameful. My hope is that together we can create a space that invites them to emerge.

Treatment Approach

  • Contemplative Psychotherapy Combines mindfulness and meditation practices with modern psychology. It encourages awareness and compassion as part of the healing process.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Jungian Therapy Draws on Carl Jung’s ideas about archetypes, dreams, and the collective unconscious. It helps people explore deeper layers of meaning.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
Approach Description: My approach is relational and depth-oriented. We begin by building safety, so your nervous system can actually settle. From there, I help you start noticing the signals you may have learned to override, and start meeting all of your experiences with less shame and more understanding. I draw on somatic and trauma-informed work to ease nervous-system dysregulation; on contemplative and mindfulness practices from years of Buddhist study, and on depth (Jungian) psychology's attention to the symbols that are arising all the time in dreams, creativity, and waking life. Because I'm neurodivergent mysel, my work is throughly neuroaffirming. The aim is not to become the norm, but to help you live in a closer, kinder alignment with how your mind and heart are actually built.

Lee Scher Practice Description
I offer individual therapy for adults in Southeat Portland and throughout Oregon via telehealth. My practice centers on serving neurodivergent -- ADHD, Autistic, Bipolar and Dyslexic adults-- and people recovering from relational trauma and Complex PTSD, especially anyone raised in an emotionally unsafe and narcicistic family system. With 16 years of experience, I work with nervous-system dysregulation, post-traumatic shame, anxiety, burnout, masking fatigue, and later-in-life discovery of neurodivergence. I'm in-network with Pacific Source commercial and I provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement. I offer a free initial consultation by phone or zoom, which is a low-pressure way to feel out whether we're a fit.
